VERNAL CITY CORPORATION CODE COMPLIANCE TECHNICIAN in VERNAL, Utah

Under the supervision of the Planning Director, the code compliance technician is responsible for the effective enforcement of residential and commercial property maintenance and zoning and nuisance abatement ordinances of Vernal City.  Performs a variety of routine and complex work in the interpretation and enforcement of adopted City codes, ordinances and regulations including those related to neighborhood integrity, health nuisances and substandard property conditions. 

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

1.                  Inspects properties within the Vernal City limits to determine whether property conforms with applicable zoning and nuisance abatement ordinances.

2.                  Investigate reports and complaints of code violations and works with property owners to bring properties or nuisances into compliance with City codes and standards.

3.                  Documents any violations and complete necessary research for citations and court action.

4.                  Issue notices of violations to property owners and follows through to ensure that property owners comply within a given period of time and issues citations when necessary.

5.                  Prepares mailings and maintain file system of zoning violations and nuisance abatement violations.

6.                  Prepares notices to be placed on vehicles or semi-trucks that are in violation of City ordinances such as parking or other nuisance issues. 

7.                  Inspects City right-of-ways for unauthorized advertisement signs, remove them and notify owners of violations. Maintain database of violators of sign ordinance. 

8.                  Develop and implement public outreach and education of City codes.

9.                  Cover planning and development department when needed; Respond to patrons at the front counter and answer the phone. 

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

1.         High school diploma or equivalent.                               &nb sp;       

2.         Utah Driver's License.

3.         Six (6) months office / customer service or similar experience.

4.         The City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and ability.
