Uintah Special Service District 1 Climbing Wall Attendant in VERNAL, Utah
Shifts: 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM / No School days and Holidays 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Position Location: Recreation Center - 610 S Vernal Avenue - Vernal, UT 84078
Hours of Operation: 5:00 AM - 9:30 PM M-F; 5:00 AM - 7:00 PM Saturday and Holidays
GENERAL PURPOSE
Safely performs a variety of duties as needed to provide support for the climbing wall located within the Uintah Recreation Center. Greet patrons in a friendly, professional manner. Assist and guide patrons wishing to use the climbing wall. Teach scheduled classes, as assigned, using encouragement and friendly instruction. Clean and maintain the climbing wall and equipment.

Works under the supervision of the Program Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide patrons using the climbing wall with climbing and proper equipment-use instructions.
Must communicate with patrons and co-workers in a friendly, encouraging, and positive manner.
Ensure the safe operation of climbing wall equipment and that safety protocols are followed.
Inspect equipment, as safety regulations require.
Ability to assist with wall maintenance.
Keep the climbing wall storage area clean and organized.
Follow cleaning procedures and complete the cleaning checklist, as assigned:
- Cleaning includes sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing the climbing wall, equipment, bench, and storage area.
Must have the ability to work as a team and independently; communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, patrons, and members of the public.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS and WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Education and Experience:
A. Aptitude to take instruction and learn from on-the-job training by the Climbing Wall Instructors, Program Coordinator, and experienced co-workers.
B. Previous work experience preferred.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to wear harnesses and secure rope with hands and climbing wall tools.
Must be able to ascend and descend the wall safely.
Must be able to verbally communicate with co-workers, climbers, and patrons.
Must be able to read and comprehend climbing material and safety regulations.
3. Other Requirements:
Applicants must be age 15 or older to apply.
Must consent to and successfully pass a drug screen.
Must consent to a background screen.
TRAINING & PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
Ability to learn and apply climbing wall safety procedures, equipment protocols, and customer service standards during the training period in a recreation environment. The position includes performance chec k-ins to support successful job performance and ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all climbers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Incumbents of the position perform work in a climate-controlled environment. Typical industrial cleaning products are used in the facility. Tasks require various physical activities; generally, climbing, holding, securing, pulling, walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity exists. Must wear required safety gear. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, and problem-solving. No travel is required.
