Uintah Special Service District 1 All Wheels Program Instructor in VERNAL, Utah

Classification: Seasonal Hourly - non-benefited

Shifts: Various Shifts - Mon - Sat 

Position Location: Uintah Recreation Center - Uintah All Wheels Park - 610 S Vernal Avenue, Vernal

Hours of Operation: Dawn to Dusk

 


 

GENERAL PURPOSE

Safely performs a variety of duties to provide instruction, supervision, and support for the Uintah All Wheels Park, a combination pump track and skate park facility. Greet participants and patrons in a friendly, professional manner. Assist and guide riders wishing to use the facility. Teach scheduled clinics and skill sessions, as assigned, using structured instruction, encouragement, and positive reinforcement. Promote safety, proper use of equipment, and responsible park etiquette. Assist with general maintenance and cleanliness of the facility and related equipment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the supervision of the Recreation Program Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Employee must be able to:

  • Provide participants using the All Wheels Park with instruction on proper riding techniques, body positioning, safety awareness, and progression for skateboards, non-motorized bicycles (BMX), and scooters.

  • Teach structured clinics for beginner, intermediate, and advanced participants across various age groups.

  • Communicate with participants, parents, and co-workers in a friendly, encouraging, and professional manner.

  • Ensure the safe operation of the pump track and skate park features, and enforce all District safety protocols, including helmet requirements and non-motorized-use policies.

  • Monitor rider flow and behavior to promote safe and respectful use of the facility.

  • Enforce all Distric t safety rules and facility policies consistently and without exception. Immediately address unsafe behaviors and remove participants from the activity when safety rules are violated.

  • Inspect riding surfaces and equipment as required to ensure safety standards are maintained.

  • Complete incident reports and notify supervisors of injuries, unsafe conditions, or policy violations in accordance with District procedures.

  • Participate in required safety training and risk management procedures as directed by the District.

  • Keep the All Wheels Park and surrounding areas clean and organized.

  • Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, participants, patrons, and members of the public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS and WORK ENVIRONMENT

Education and Experience

  1. Demonstrated skill and experience in skateboarding, BMX (non-motorized), or scooter riding. Experience on pump track and skate park features preferred.

  2. Previous coaching, instructional, or youth mentoring experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to safely demonstrate riding techniques appropriate for beginner, intermediate, and advanced participants.

  • Ability to teach skill progression in a structured and encouraging manner.

  • Ability to enforce safety standards consistently and professionally.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with participants of all age groups.

  • Ability to read and comprehend safety materials and facility regulations.

  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergencies.

3.        Other Requirements:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of hire.

  • Must pass a background screen.

  • Must pass a drug screen.

  • Must comply with all District safety policies and procedures.

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain, as required by the District.

TRAINING & PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

This position focuses on safety, youth protection, facility procedures, and rule enforcement. Instructors are ex ected to demonstrate proactive monitoring, sound safety judgment, and consistent enforcement of posted rules.

Performance will be evaluated during the initial employment period through coaching and formal 3-week and 6-week reviews. Continued employment is contingent upon meeting established safety, professionalism, and reliability standards.

  1. Work Environment:

Incumbents perform work primarily in an outdoor environment subject to varying weather conditions. Tasks require various physical activities, including riding demonstrations, standing, walking, bending, lifting equipment, and monitoring participants for extended periods. Requires normal visual and auditory acuity. Must wear required safety gear and enforce helmet and protective equipment requirements. Work schedule and seasonal duration may be affected by weather conditions and program participation levels.

Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instruction, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, and problem-solving. No travel is required.
