Job Description:
Mars Pet Nutrition has an extremely large and complex portfolio of Global animal proteins byproducts globally. Including all wet animal proteins across multiple geographic sourcing regions. Historically, these materials have been governed in a highly decentralized manner, however to drive expertise and guidance for operating entities, a global governance is required. The Global Material Scientist, is responsible to be the single point of contact for Commercial, SQA and Operating entities to manage and govern the Global wet animal proteins catalogue of ingredients starting from what is already available globally and growing to include new globally governed ingredients.
What would be your key responsibilities?
Lead Global Community of material development associates on Global Wet Animal Proteins, coordinating with Global Commercial and Q&FS on key priorities for standardization and governance
Lead and maintain Global Knowledge Management on key Global Wet animal proteins including Global MRAs, specifications, new supplier/material validations
Responsible to update global specification with new requirements (e.g. requested by supplier, SQA or regions, technical standard deployments, parameters required for superior product proposition etc.)
Responsible for the deployment/governance of the Global Freshness Technical Standard
Responsible for maintaining Global WoW for all Centralized MRAs, including update of global MRAs for new MFSHDS version release/new hazards
Responsible to approve Concession of overdue Supplier Audits for Centralized Ingredients
Responsible to attend SQA audits as representative for global spec. & MRA management
Responsible to maintain Central R&D leadership on Specification approvals across the workflow or other pending tasks in the portfolio
Give expert advice about material nature, functionality, properties
What are we looking for?
Bachelors, in Nutrition; Animal Science; Food Science, or relevant experience
10+ years of experience in regional and/or global roles within R&D
Experience in material/product development, process development or formulation
Deep technical background and working knowledge of wet animal proteins including supply chain, processability, impact to product quality, nutrition and product performance (palatability, digestibility, faecal quality etc.)
Strong understanding of relevant Q&FS and technical standards and how to implement them (Freshness mandate, MQM etc).
Experience of defining MRAs and specifications
Demonstrated capability of working in partnership with Commercial, SQA and Q&FS to deliver business value (e.g. new material validation, value leadership projects, crisis management etc.)
Ability to analyse and interpret complex data from multiple sources to identify challenges, solutions and continuous improvement opportunities
External network and excellent collaboration with wet animal protein suppliers
Experience in project management, strong ability to define, lead and execute multiple projects across different OEs and functions
Passion and curiosity to continue to deepen expertise and be the global subject matter expert in wet animal proteins
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
