Survey An AOT Technical Apprentice within the Survey Unit performs land surveying duties under the supervision of the Agency\'s licensed Land Surveyor. Working alongside our two field crews, a Tech is responsible for performing survey field work, total station/GPS/GNSS instrument operation, CADD file creation, editing, and analysis, field reconnaissance, 3D terrestrial LiDAR scanning.
Rail Trail Working alongside two field technicians and independently, the Tech is responsible for performing routine trail maintenance such as clearing drainage structures, cutting blowdowns, trimming overgrowth, and installing signs; completing GIS based asset inventories and reporting conditions to field leadership; and assisting with trail user education which typically occurs through informal interactions over the course of the workday. Techs should be prepared to provide information about the Rail Trails and explain relevant trail etiquette. The position will report to the West Danville field office but will cover trails statewide.
Environmental Factors
Duties are generally performed in both an office and field setting for which private means of transportation must be available. Field work may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions, and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Class incumbents may be required to carry equipment, weighing up to 40 pounds, traverse rough wooded and steep terrain, travel in boats or work on structures above ground level. Duties may also require exposure to extreme weather conditions.
