This position is eligible for teleworking, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective hire date.

Position Objective:

This position directs and oversees managerial personnel who are responsible for the coordination of inventory supply chain operations at MTA locations. Working with the appropriate senior management, maintenance personnel, including all levels of maintenance managerial staff, and Material Planners, the Sr. The Director of Material Planning defines a path for the appropriate material support activity at their responsibility locations, approving high-dollar material forecasts for program support and all other inventory material requirements related to efficient maintenance service levels for all departments supported. Working with storeroom and procurement management, among others, the Sr. The Director of Material Planning coordinates space constraints and budgetary oversight to ensure that material requirements are available for timely and efficient distribution.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs a team of managers that determines and transmits material forecasts utilizing fleet assignments, work plans, analysis of parts usage, and availability, within budgetary constraints. Develop, where appropriate, bills of materials to make more efficient use of maintenance and supply chain operations. Monitor depot Maintenance Material budgets.

  • Oversees the daily operations of material requirements support to end users, using metrics designed to troubleshoot daily parts issues with the aim of maintaining service and availability for individual locations. Oversees shop logs for fleet equipment out-of-service or trippers due to no stock. Analyzing the supply chain, determine the most efficient and timely way of obtaining material and follow through to ensure timely delivery, work with the locations’ operating personnel to research and identify material. Presents recommendations and/or options to end-user departments where needed.

  • Coordinates the acquisition of material within budgetary and space constraints. Works with management in various departments to ensure timely and appropriate delivery of material requirements.

  • Coordinates efforts with staff to work directly with storeroom operations reviewing fleet changeouts, appropriate min/reorder levels, and obsolete/inactive material in order to maximize use of limited storeroom space. Coordinate maintenance plans with storeroom operations personnel to maximize overall delivery of service to maintenance operations.

  • Assist depot operations and procurement to ensure the timely and appropriate delivery of non-inventory material bulk consumables for fleet support.

  • Leads staff to determine appropriate action is taken to coordinate with supply chain management in all agencies to minimize excess material disposal.

  • Approves and reviews high-dollar inventory material reorders for appropriate stocking levels, assisting procurement with the commodity management process.

  • Select, develop, and motivate personnel in the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Provide input regarding the discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review staff performance. Creates a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential. Create an environment that fosters creativity, learning, development, and opportunity for all employees. Provide ongoing support and dedication to developing an internal talent pool.

  • Develop criteria for reports to monitor the accuracy of material planning group activities.

  • Establish and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) for materials planning, monitoring progress, and taking action to address any issues

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • W orking knowledge of Warehousing Operations / Business and Supply Chain Systems.

  • Familiarity with visualization tools, such as PowerBI, Tableau, or comparable applications.

  • Strong managerial skills to effectively direct a staff of professional and technical employees in implementing the short- and long-term goals and direction for the area of responsibility.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with key internal and/or external stakeholders.

    Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business , Transportation, Supply Chain, Logistics, Materials Management, Public Policy, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree; and

  • Minimum 8 years related experience, including at least 4 years in a managerial and/or leadership role in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body preferred.

    The Following is/are preferred:

  • An advanced degree in a related field.

  • Familiarity with the MTA’s policies and procedures.

  • Experience with the following systems or a comparable system:

  • Talon / Materials Management System (MMS)

  • Planner Initiated Expediting System (PIES)

  • Logical Inventory Management System (LIMS)

    Other Information

    May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e., evenings and weekends)

    Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.
