Overview

Delta Solutions and Services Bowhead is seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer for our team at Vandenberg SFB.

The IT Systems Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, integration, and sustainment of complex IT systems supporting Department of Defense mission requirements. This includes developing architectures, implementation strategies, and cost estimates to enable new capabilities and infrastructure modernization. The engineer ensures secure, reliable, and scalable system operations through disciplined configuration management, lifecycle sustainment, cybersecurity compliance, and performance optimization.

Responsibilities

• Design, integrate, and sustain IT systems, services, and infrastructure aligned to mission, operational, and security requirements.

• Develop architecture diagrams, implementation strategies, and configuration standards for enterprise and mission systems.

• Integrate hardware, software, virtualization, and network components into cohesive and compliant system solutions.

• Develop detailed implementation plans, including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), milestones, and schedules.

• Produce and maintain system engineering documentation, including CONOPS, configuration guides, SOPs, and technical baselines.

• Support generation of risk assessments, fallback procedures, and deployment/sustainment checklists.

• Research hardware, software, and cloud service components based on functional requirements, interoperability, and lifecycle compatibility.

• Generate cost estimates and Bills of Material (BOMs) to support planning, procurement, and budgeting.

• Coordinate with acquisition or supply chain personnel to source equipment, verify lead times, and conduct technical evaluations.

• Implement system hardening and security baselines in accordance with applicable STIGs and DoD security frameworks.

• Support RMF authorization efforts by providing technical artifacts (system diagrams, data flows, PPSM documentation, etc.) for security control responses.

• Coordinate with ISSOs and cybersecurity teams to ensure systems achieve and maintain compliance and audit readiness.

• Maintain system health through software updates, patching, backups, COOP validation, and configuration management.

• Monitor performance, availability, and security posture of assigned systems using analytic and monitoring tools.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across operating systems, networks, and applications.

• Deploy, configure, and maintain physical, virtual, and cloud-hosted servers.

• Configure network services such as DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and file/print services.

• Collaborate with network and security teams to ensure connectivity, access control, and appropriate routing across classified and unclassified enclaves.

• Evaluate the impact of system changes on operations, security, and performance.

• Translate user and mission needs into technical requirements and capability improvements.

• Participate in integrated planning teams for new deployments, upgrades, or cross-domain solutions.

• Analyze system logs, performance metrics, and usage trends to optimize resource allocation and resolve bottlenecks.

• Recommend system upgrades or modifications to meet emerging mission requirements and technology refresh goals.

• Provide Tier III/engineering-level support to technicians and administrators.

• Serve as a technical advisor to leadership, supporting architecture reviews, decision briefings, and risk assessments.

• Train and mentor junior personnel in system management, troubleshooting, and documentation standards.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in planning, designing, and implementing enterprise-scale systems, including full lifecycle project engineering, integration, and cross-functional team leadership.

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related IT discipline; or equivalent combination of accredited education and experience.

• Must meet position and certification requirements outlined in DoD 8140 for the System Administrator or Network Operations Specialist role (Advanced Level) within six months of hire.

• Ability to provide after-hours support as required to maintain operational readiness.

• Provide support for exercises, contingencies, and real-world operations.

• Demonstrated proficiency in enterprise monitoring tools, virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), and configuration management utilities.

• Strong knowledge of DoD network architectures, DISA standards, and enterprise-level troubleshooting procedures.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold an active TS/SCI clearance.
