Job Title: Maintenance Technician – 1st and 3rd Shift

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician supports a high-volume manufacturing operation by performing primarily reactive maintenance on production equipment during 1st and 3rd shift. This role focuses on industrial electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, including work on 24V to 480V systems, variable frequency drives, and PLC-controlled equipment. The technician ensures that plastic extrusion lines and related machinery operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems ranging from 24V DC up to 480V, including supply cabinets and associated components.

  • Diagnose and resolve issues with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and drive controls, including troubleshooting over Ethernet where applicable.

  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting and repair on production equipment, including plastic extrusion machines, palletizers, wrappers, grinders, and rolling conveyors.

  • Identify, diagnose, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic system issues to keep equipment running reliably.

  • Use PLC troubleshooting techniques to help identify the root cause of equipment faults and support efficient resolution.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and pneumatic diagrams to guide repair and troubleshooting activities.

  • Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.

  • Work collaboratively with the dedicated preventive maintenance team by communicating recurring issues and equipment concerns.

  • Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working with high-voltage and moving equipment.

  • Document maintenance activities as required to support accurate records and continuous improvement.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in industrial 480V electrical troubleshooting in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

  • Hands-on experience with industrial mechanical maintenance on production machinery.

  • Proficiency working with low-voltage systems from 24V up to 480V electrical systems.

  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills across a range of industrial equipment.

  • Ability to perform PLC troubleshooting to assist in diagnosing equipment issues.

  • Experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial setting.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and pneumatic diagrams.

  • Capability to work a 3rd shift schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM on a rotating 2-2-3 shift pattern.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with maintenance on plastic extrusion equipment or in a plastics manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

  • Familiarity with PLC troubleshooting using Ethernet-based communication.

  • Ability to interpret complex electrical and pneumatic schematics for advanced troubleshooting.

  • Schooling or formal training in robotics and automation is a significant plus.

  • Experience with palletizers, wrappers, grinders, and conveyor systems is beneficial.

  • Comfort working with VFDs and drive controls in a production environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing facility focused on plastic extrusion and related packaging operations. The Maintenance Technician works on 1st or 3rd shift from 7:00AM to 7:00PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM on a rotating 2-2-3 schedule, supporting continuous production. The environment includes exposure to industrial equipment such as extrusion lines, palletizers, wrappers, grinders, and conveyors, along with electrical systems from 24V to 480V, VFDs, PLC-controlled machinery, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The facility emphasizes safety, reliability, and long-term job stability, and provides an organized setting that supports focused troubleshooting and technical work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vandalia, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $36.00/hr.
