Your Opportunity:

As part of our continued growth, we have an immediate opening in our downtown Vancouver office for a Senior Structural Engineer. This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who thrives on technical excellence, multi-disciplinary collaboration, and guiding teams through complex building and industrial facility projects. You will serve as a technical authority, oversee structural design delivery, mentor engineering staff, and contribute to strategic project planning and client engagement.

Stantec’s integrated team approach brings together clients, operators, stakeholders, and internal specialists to deliver resilient, efficient, and sustainable solutions. Our clients span manufacturing, food & beverage, transit, municipal, and national defense sectors. Project types include new construction and renovations of:

  • Aircraft hangars, land side ports & marine, hydro buildings.

  • Food processing facilities.

  • Warehousing and distribution centres.

  • Vehicle maintenance facilities (aircraft, ships, light rail, heavy rail, bus, fleet, mining, etc.).

  • Component manufacturing and assembly facilities.

  • Light industrial buildings.

  • Staff support facilities associated with the above.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide senior-level leadership in the structural design of buildings and industrial facilities, including advanced analysis, system development, and technical oversight.

  • Serve as the technical lead on major projects, ensuring structural solutions are innovative, efficient, code‑compliant, and aligned with client objectives.

  • Develop and review structural systems, design details, and engineering documentation through sketches, diagrams, electronic models, and other visual formats.

  • Direct and mentor a team of engineers and technologists; provide technical guidance, quality oversight, and professional development support.

  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination with internal teams, external consultants, clients, contractors, and vendors.

  • Participate in and often lead client meetings, project requirement sessions, and value engineering discussions.

  • Oversee project scope for development, budgeting, staffing strategies, and schedule management in collaboration with project managers and discipline leads.

  • Prepare, review, and coordinate project specifications with construction documents

  • Conduct constructability reviews and provide senior-level technical input during design and construction phases.

  • Perform and oversee quality assurance and quality control reviews across multiple projects.

  • Contribute to the development of structural standards, best practices, and technical guidelines for the group.

  • Support business development activities, including proposal input, client relationship building, and pursuit strategy.

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high technical and delivery standards.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Registered P.Eng. in British Columbia (Struct. Eng. and/or SE preferred).

  • Extensive knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada and relevant structural design codes, standards, guidelines, practices.

  • Deep understanding of structural systems, construction methods, materials, and industry best practices.

  • Advanced expertise in seismic design and proficiency with structural analysis/design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM, Mass, Profis, and CRSI.

  • Strong understanding of project documentation phases and the integration of drawings and specifications.

  • Proven ability to lead and review the work of others, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project budgets and schedules.

  • Experience conducting senior-level field reviews and managing construction administration processes.

  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, foster collaboration, and contribute strategic thinking and creative problem-solving.

  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD is preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and internal teams.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural focus; master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of North American experience in structural design of building structures, with significant experience in steel and concrete construction.

  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex, large-scale projects.

  • Experience in construction reviews, technical reporting, and client-facing communication is an asset.

Typical office environment with extended periods of computer use. Field work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.

Pay Range:

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$111,700.00 - $167,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
