Edwards Lifesciences Senior Regional Access Manager in Vancouver, British Columbia

The role is intended to elevate Edwards’ leadership in Western Canada, both externally and internally, broaden external engagement and develop partnerships with relevant stakeholders. The role will help define the strategy, navigate the system and lead the execution of Market Access and Government Affairs programs in alignment with the Business Units imperatives and Public Affairs (Canada) strategies to secure timely patient access and appropriate funding to the innovative technologies that Edwards brings to healthcare systems in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Through interactions and partnership with Ministries of Health, HTA bodies, Payers and Procurers, decision-makers and societies, the Market Access & Government Affairs role will engage with key stakeholders across the region to define the best access pathways within the health care system to benefit patients, building an innovation-friendly environment with high ethical standards.

How you will make an impact:

  • Proactively design and implement provincial policy and access plans, aligned with Public Affairs and Business unit strategies to ensure overall objectives are met in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

  • Understand the issues and opportunities of the region, define impactful short-term strategies, and determine specific tactics to drive performance metrics.

  • Navigate the provincial health system and hold impactful relationships at various levels to achieve regional objectives.

  • Provide expertise and field intelligence on external access policy, government and decision-maker environment and issues which influence;

  • how Edwards’ Business Units operate in Western Canada.

  • how the current/future access and funding landscape for medical technologies evolves.

  • Work cross functionally and seamlessly with Public Affairs, clinical, regulatory, commercial and regional colleagues.

  • Act as a subject matter expert on provincial policy matters, reimbursement pathways and health systems in the assigned region.

  • Create and drive health system solutions with provincial partners, HCPs and KOLs to overcome access barriers and ensure appropriate, timely access for patients.

  • Represent Edwards on policy discussions with policymakers and influencers throughout Western Canada.

  • Develop and maintain key HCP relationships, in collaboration with Edwards regional teams, to advance patient access to care.

  • Represent Edwards in trade association / life science associations and working groups to foster collaboration, while advancing Edwards’ perspectives and industry positions on key policy issues.

  • Establish, maintain and strengthen a network of contacts with policymakers, government officials and agencies, as well as payers, health technology assessment bodies and procurement agencies in the Western Canada region.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with 10 years or Master's degree with 8 years of demonstrated experience in Western Canada

  • Demonstrated healthcare experience in market access, government relations, public affairs with multinational medical device, biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies.

  • Fluency in English (written and oral).

  • Coursework, seminars and/or other formal government and/or trade association training

  • Provincial government policy, pricing & reimbursement experience is highly desirable

  • Proven successful project management skills

  • Proven expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel and communications systems

  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills

  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Excellent documentation, communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills with ability to drive achievement of objectives

  • Extensive knowledge of own area within the organization while contributing to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of legal requirements relevant to federal and provincial lobbying disclosure and political action committee management

  • Extensive knowledge of legislative and policy making process

  • Ability to transfer knowledge and mentor other team members on specialized skills

  • Strict attention to detail

  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels and to proactively escalate issues to appropriate levels of management in the organization

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to represent leadership on sections of projects within a specific area interfacing with project managers and cross functional teams

  • Ability to consult in a project setting within specific sections

  • Adhere to all company rules and requirements (e.g., pandemic protocols, Environmental Health & Safety rules) and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control

For Canada, the base pay range for this position is 136 000 $ - 192 000 $ (highly experienced). The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
