Qualus Senior Project Manager in Vancouver, British Columbia
Position Overview
Power your future with Qualus in our T&D Canada business as a Senior Project Manager - Transmission & Distribution. Our Project Managers play an important role in the growth of our Project Management Services and are responsible for the successful initiation, planning, execution, control and close-out of major electric transmission, distribution and substation projects. The successful candidate must have exceptional leadership skills and possess the ability to successfully navigate through and resolve complex and oftentimes multi-functional challenges associated with large projects.
This role will be responsible for leading the management and execution of projects, ensuring project requirements are met in terms of quality, schedule, and budget. Additionally, it will oversee engineering efforts, coordinate project scopes, and ensure compliance with established standards. The role will also provide mentorship to junior engineers, perform QA/QC tasks, and support procurement and construction activities to ensure successful project implementation.
Responsibilities
Provide strategic project management leadership for large and complex electric substation, transmission and distribution projects
Manage the project through its lifecycle, starting with project definition, development of the project plan, budget, schedule, procurement and contracting strategies, through engineering, procurement, construction and closeout phases
Develop relationships and maintain effective communication channels with clients, stakeholders, and internal project team to ensure efficient project delivery
Coordinate project team members and sub-contractors, as well as the client to ensure cost effective, efficient, safe and timely completion of projects to meet and/or exceed client expectations
Provide and maintain status reports to the client and management regarding the overall project progress and performance, utilizing client systems where appropriate
Manage the Key Performance Indicators
Monitor engineering progress and performance and taking corrective action where necessary to control engineering work within budget and schedule
Managing scope changes proactively and resolving complex issues both with clients and internal project teams
Assess project risk and proactively develop mitigation plans
Monitor and ensure adequate resource availability to support the project
Mentor and train junior project managers and project services support staff
Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years engineering or operations experience on transmission, substation or distribution projects, including at least 5 years of increasing responsibility as a project manager
Demonstrate excellent leadership, verbal/written communications, time management, interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrate the ability to be organized and work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities
Proficient in analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implementing recommendations to support project scope, schedule and cost objectives
Consistently produce results that meet goals, have high work standards, and understand the business environment and processes
Strives for individual excellence by seeking challenges and self-development, demonstrating high levels of expertise and showing commitment, self-confidence, and integrity
Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)
Preferred qualifications:
Engineering Degree from a recognized university along with a Professional Engineering Designation with EGBC and a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certificate is an asset
Experience with substation, distribution, and transmission projects
PMP Certification is considered an asset
Valid driver's license and clean driving abstract
Available to travel within BC
