Black & McDonald Limited Electrical Estimator - Utilities Construction in Vancouver, British Columbia

The Electrical Estimator is located in Vancouver and reports directly to the lead Electrical Estimator.
The Electrical Estimator – Utilities Construction will analyze costs and prepare work take-offs and estimates on electrical utilities projects. The successful candidate will provide technical and administrative support to project operations with emphasis on estimating, reporting and monitoring progress, planning, scheduling, and handling project change. This is a junior level position for someone looking to grow their career with solid mentorship under an experienced Estimator. Responsibilities include but are not limited to
Assist in developing estimates for tender submissions on utility projects.
Assist the lead Electrical Estimator to prepare estimates of cost of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications.
Perform quantity take-offs
Under the direction of the lead Electrical Estimator, advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and participate in negotiations.
Establish and maintain tendering process, set up cost monitoring, reporting systems and procedures.
Coordinates price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding tenders.
Participates in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing and operational/sector meetings with the lead Electrical Estimator and Project Managers and Operations Manager as required
Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
Obtain and compare suppliers and subcontractors quotes
Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
Participate in site visits to gather information to complete estimates
Help to maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders through timely communication and follow-up
Help prepare bid packages and proposals
Maintain and update cost database and estimating software

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Completion of a Degree or Diploma in Construction Engineering Technology/Construction Management is an asset
Experience as a qualified tradesperson in the electrical construction industry may substitute for education requirements.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 1-3 years of estimating experience in the Utilities or Commercial Construction industry
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Proficient knowledge and strong understanding of established Construction best practices
Understanding of electrical systems and construction processes
Attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organization and time management skills
Proficient with recognized estimating software is an asset
Proficient user of MS Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Willing and able to travel within the Greater Vancouver area for site visits as needed
Valid non-graduated Class 5 BC Drivers' license and drivers' abstract
The expected salary range for this role is between $70,000-$85,000. The starting salary will be based on several factors such as the successful candidate's qualifications, including but not limited to education and experience. Salary is one component of Black & McDonald's total rewards package.
