Job Information
Ecora Director of Business Development in Vancouver, British Columbia
About the Role
Ecora is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to lead growth across British Columbia — with a home base in the Lower Mainland or Okanagan. This is a hunter role, first and foremost. We're looking for someone who is already known in BC's engineering and infrastructure community: someone clients call before the RFP is written, not after. If you also carry relationships into Alberta or the Territories, that's a significant advantage.
What You'll Do
Proactively build and maintain relationships with municipal clients, regional districts, BC ministries, utilities, and private sector owners — long before RFPs are issued
Own a personal pipeline: identify and qualify opportunities in BC's Lower Mainland, Interior, and Okanagan markets, and pursue them with urgency and discipline
Position Ecora early in the procurement cycle — through client meetings, sole-source conversations, and pre-qualification — not just proposal response
Lead capture strategy on major pursuits, including win themes, competitive positioning, and client intelligence
Partner with technical leads and project managers to shape scope and approach, but drive the relationship side yourself
Represent Ecora at BC-focused industry events and associations (ACEC-BC, APWA BC, UBCM, BCWWA, etc.) and be a visible, known presence in the market
Develop and manage teaming relationships with primes, subconsultants, and Indigenous partners relevant to BC procurement
Maintain accurate pipeline and opportunity data in CRM, with reliable forecasting for leadership
Extend Ecora's reach into Alberta and the Territories where your network allows — this is a real differentiator for the right candidate
Contribute to annual BD planning, market prioritization, and growth strategy across the Western Canada region
Baseline Requirements
8–12 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 5 years in business development within an AEC or engineering consulting firm
An established, active network in BC's engineering and infrastructure community — with clients, agencies, and peers who know you by name
Demonstrated track record of winning work through relationship-led pursuit, not just proposal response
Familiarity with BC public sector procurement: RFQ/RFP/RFEI processes, QBS selection, municipal and regional district procurement, and BC ministry contracting
Understanding of UNDRIP and Indigenous engagement obligations in BC project development — working familiarity with Nation-led procurement is an asset
Proficiency in CRM platforms (Hubspot, Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint, or equivalent)
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Planning, Business, Marketing, or related field
Preferred / Differentiating Experience
Existing relationships with BC municipalities, regional districts, TransLink, BC Hydro, MOTI, or other major provincial clients and owners
Network that extends into Alberta (municipalities, ATCO, provincial ministries) or the Territories (Yukon, NWT, Nunavut government infrastructure programs) — this is a meaningful differentiator
Experience navigating Indigenous partnership requirements in BC and Northern Canada, including equity participation, community benefit agreements, and Nation-to-Nation procurement
Active involvement in ACEC-BC, UBCM, BCWWA, or other BC professional associations — someone already known in the room, not just attending
Prior technical background (engineering, environmental science, or planning) that enables peer-level conversations with client technical staff
Familiarity with major infrastructure funding programs: ICIP, Canada Water Agency, CMHC housing-enabling infrastructure, and BC-specific grant streams
