Black & McDonald Limited Commercial Electrical Service Technician in Vancouver, British Columbia
Black & McDonald is seeking a Commercial Electrical Service Technician to join our Service Division in Vancouver, BC. This role focuses on the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of commercial and institutional electrical systems across the Lower Mainland.
You will work independently and alongside other skilled trades to deliver safe, high‑quality service while maintaining strong client relationships and compliance with applicable codes and safety standards. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform scheduled maintenance and emergency service on commercial electrical systems
Troubleshoot and repair power distribution, lighting, controls, and motor control equipment
Service and maintain panels, breakers, transformers, MCCs, and branch circuits
Complete electrical installations including EV charging infrastructure, lighting upgrades, panel replacements, and service upgrades
Support HVAC and BAS teams with electrical troubleshooting and commissioning activities
Complete accurate service documentation and communicate clearly with clients
Participate in a rotating on-call service schedule
Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Red Seal Electrician (BC) or registered apprentice progressing toward certification
Electrical FSR (Class B)
Minimum 5 years of commercial or industrial electrical service experience
Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a clean driving record
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
Solid understanding of commercial electrical systems and controls
Experience with EV charging infrastructure considered an asset
BAS, controls, or HVAC electrical experience considered an asset
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Professional, customer-focused communication skills
Comfortable using mobile devices for service reporting and scheduling
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Union wages per IBEW 213 agreement
Competitive total wage package range $65.51/hr - $72.21/hr based on experience and certifications
