Transportation Secretary

Benton Community seeks candidates interested in a secretary position. The position will be at the Van Horne Transportation building.

Transportation Secretary Duties

CDL class B license with School Bus, Passenger, and Air Brake endorsements.

Good Driving Record / Able to pass DOT Physical & pre-employment drug testing.

Strong organizational and people skills including the knowledge of routing and scheduling for the purpose of transporting students to and from school and on activity trips.

Conforms to all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.

Develops and administers a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.

Call for substitute bus drivers as needed.

Keep track of all drivers sick and personal days.

Order and maintain supplies for the general office area.

Assist head mechanic with purchase orders and keeping an accurate inventory of bus garage parts & equipment.

Forward purchase orders with all invoices to the accounting department.

Assist the Director of Transportation, principals, and other responsible for planning special school trips.

Complete the annual state mandated report for approval by Administration.

Assist with the drug & alcohol Program as required by Federal Law.

Assist and follow procedures for crises or emergency situations.

Maintain proficiency in operation of computer & software(including word processing, database, & spreadsheets)

Work effectively with students, staff, and parents in a calm positive manner.

Use two way radios and other transportation communications devices.

Perform secretarial duties including proof reading for correct spelling and proper grammar.

Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Organize tasks and complete them with efficient use of time.

Maintain confidentiality of all student and stall information.

Maintain a current working knowledge of transportation issues, including routes, schedules, policies and safety procedures.

Assist as needed viewing video tapes from buses and make objective observations.

Operate GPS Tracking System

Takes calls from bus drivers in procedures or schedule changes.

Do monthly payroll for drivers and bus stop supervisors.

Other related duties and responsibilities necessary to facilitate the efficient operation of the Transportation Department.
