Packaging Corp of America Occupational Health and Safety Specialists in Valdosta, Georgia

Responsible for supporting a safe and healthy work environment across Packaging Corp of America facilities. Conducts inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify workplace hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Develops and implements safety programs, policies, and procedures to prevent accidents and occupational illnesses. Provides training and guidance to employees and managers on safety topics, including proper use of equipment, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.

Investigates workplace incidents, injuries, and near-misses, identifying root causes and collaborating with management to develop corrective actions. Maintains accurate records of all workplace injuries, safety incidents, and compliance activities. Prepares reports, communicates findings, and recommends improvements to enhance workplace safety. Acts as a resource for regulatory compliance and stays current with all relevant laws and regulations.

Coordinates and participates in emergency response planning, drills, and preparedness activities. Works with cross-functional teams to implement ergonomic improvements and promote a culture of safety in the workplace. Monitors environmental conditions and ensures proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.

Builds positive relationships with employees, supervisors, and leadership to foster engagement and support for safety initiatives. Provides technical expertise and serves as a subject matter expert on occupational health and safety issues. Participates in continuous improvement efforts and supports company sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications: - Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field preferred - Previous experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment - Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and best practices - Experience conducting training, audits, and investigations - Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills - Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend practical solutions - Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety management systems - Certifications such as CSP, CIH, or OSHA Training are a plus - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment - Willingness to travel to multiple company locations as needed

Physical Demands: - Ability to walk, stand, and climb in a manufacturing environment - May require lifting and carrying materials or equipment - Ability to respond to emergencies and perform site visits in varying conditions
