Boart Longyear Warehouse Associate and Bit Sharpening Technician in Val-d'Or, Canada

Job Description:

Job Overview

The Warehouse Clerk / Bit Sharpening Technician Support is responsible for performing all warehouse operational tasks, including receiving, organizing, inventory control, order preparation, and dispatching materials. This role also provides direct support to the Bit Sharpening Technician by assisting with sharpening processes, inventory tracking, and tool preparation. The position ensures safe equipment operation, proper documentation, and efficient service to internal teams and customers.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations

  • Receive merchandise and verify accuracy against documentation.

  • Store, organize, and maintain the warehouse in an efficient manner.

  • Prepare customer orders, ensuring materials are complete and in proper condition.

  • Load and unload materials safely to prevent damage.

  • Maintain documentation for each delivery, including signatures and system updates.

  • Keep the warehouse clean, including floor washing and dust removal from shelving.

  • Dispose of broken pallets and waste materials at the landfill as required.

Inventory Management

  • Perform regular inventory counts and maintain accurate stock records.

  • Monitor inventory levels for all warehouse materials and equipment.

  • Track all customer drill bits through the sharpening workflow:

  • Bits in process

  • Bits ready for use

  • Bits needing repair or replacement

  • Maintain accurate documentation for all inventory movements.

Bit Sharpening Technician Support

  • Assist in sharpening, grinding, inspecting, and maintaining drill bits.

  • Ensure drill bits meet required standards before returning them to use.

  • Prepare and distribute the weekly Bit Sharpening Control Sheet every Monday.

  • Cut rods for customer requirements as part of assigned work tasks.

Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance

  • Perform daily inspections of forklifts prior to operation.

  • Purchase propane tanks for forklifts as needed.

  • Conduct basic maintenance and safety checks on the company truck.

  • Ensure the trailer remains in proper working conditions.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all workplace safety guidelines and procedures.

  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.

  • Support seasonal operations, including snow removal at entrances and parking areas.

  • Ensure compliance with all internal and external safety standards.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities

  • Experience operating forklifts and material‑handling equipment

  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tooling

  • Accurate documentation and strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Strong commitment to safety and operational standards

Qualifications

Education:

  • Vocational training or technical qualification in logistics, warehouse operations, or supply chain preferred.

Experience:

  • Warehouse experience preferred

  • Experience working with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle) is preferred.

  • Forklift license an asset

Languages:

  • Fluent in local language; basic English skills required.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials as required

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and manual handling of tools

  • Ability to work in warehouse and outdoor environments, including winter weather

Lifting Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting of items up to 25 kg with use of lifting aids as appropriate.

Additional Information

  • This position does not offer visa sponsorship. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

  • Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

  • Compensation: CAD 25 - 27.5
