Rescue Mission of Utica Resident Counselor I in UTICA, New York
Job Title: Resident Counselor/Direct Care in our Enriched Living Center (ELC).Salary Range: $16.00 $17.00 Hourly depending on experienceJob Summary: The primary responsibility of the Resident Counselor is to provide direct support and skill building to people diagnosed with mental illness at the Enriched Living Center, a 52-bed OMH-certified residence.Essential Job Functions: * Interact with the residents as frequently as possible in order to build trust and rapport. * Promote, model and teach acceptable social behaviors to the residents. * Monitor the security camera system to maintain a safe environment. * Teach the residents with: personal hygiene, laundering, and social skills. * Prompt and assist residents to maintain the cleanliness of their rooms. * Assist in housekeeping duties, and oversee the cleaning of residents rooms, as necessary. * Monitor medications with the residents: supervise the self-administration of medications by residents. * Perform hourly rounds of the building by checking doors, windows, alarms, and looking for liquid spills, etc.Minimum Job Qualifications: * High school diploma (or equivalent), preferably with one year of experience with the severely and persistently mentally ill population. * Compassionate, caring demeanor. * Ability to remain calm under pressure. * Strong attention to detail. * Ability to set appropriate boundaries with residents. * Strong oral communication skills. * Ability to work as a team player. * Agreement with Rescue Mission of Uticas Mission Statement. * Clean/valid NYS Drivers License preferred. Status: Full-Time (40 hrs) / Part-Time (16 hrs).
