Huntington National Bank State Government Relations Manager - South in Tupelo, Mississippi

Summary:

The State Government Relations Manager supports Huntington’s legislative and advocacy efforts across assigned states. This role develops and executes state-level strategies, builds relationships with elected officials, and ensures compliance with lobbying regulations. The manager also advises senior leadership on key policy issues and represents the bank in industry associations and coalitions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead state-level legislative strategy and advocacy efforts in coordination with the Government Relations Director.

  • Monitor and analyze state and local legislation; develop policy positions in partnership with internal stakeholders.

  • Serve as the primary contact for elected officials and government agencies in assigned states.

  • Advise senior leadership on political developments and regulatory risks.

  • Manage relationships with external consultants and industry associations.

  • Support PAC operations, including vendor oversight, reporting, and board coordination.

  • Ensure compliance with lobbying laws and reporting requirements.

  • Identify business development opportunities and coordinate with relevant business units.

  • Represent Huntington at state legislative sessions, public policy forums, and community events.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, Public Policy, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in government relations, public affairs, or legislative advocacy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of state legislative processes and regulatory environments.

  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills.

  • Experience managing consultants and working with trade associations preferred
