Job Title: Part-time Concrete Tester
Job Description
This role focuses on performing destructive testing of concrete specimens and conducting laboratory analysis of soil samples in accordance with ASTM standards. The laboratory technician ensures that all testing activities follow established procedures, produce accurate and reliable results, and support engineering and construction quality control efforts.
Responsibilities
Perform destructive testing of concrete test specimens in strict accordance with ASTM guidelines.
Conduct laboratory analysis of soil samples, including Atterberg Limits, Grain Size Analysis, and Standard Proctor tests.
Prepare, label, and handle concrete and soil samples to maintain integrity and traceability throughout the testing process.
Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment used for concrete and soil analysis.
Record, organize, and document test data accurately, following laboratory procedures and ASTM standards.
Assist in interpreting test results and reporting findings to relevant stakeholders as required.
Follow all laboratory safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area.
Support continuous improvement of laboratory methods and workflows by following best practices and suggesting process enhancements.
Essential Skills
Hands-on experience with concrete testing in a laboratory environment.
Hands-on experience with soil testing, including Atterberg Limits, Grain Size Analysis, and Standard Proctor methods.
Working knowledge of ASTM standards and guidelines related to concrete and soil testing.
Ability to follow detailed technical procedures with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Capability to handle physical aspects of laboratory work, including preparing and testing concrete and soil specimens.
Strong documentation skills for recording test results and maintaining laboratory records.
Commitment to following safety protocols in a laboratory setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Relevant certification or training related to concrete testing is highly beneficial.
Familiarity with additional ASTM testing procedures for construction materials.
Basic understanding of geotechnical or construction materials principles.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a laboratory team.
Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tests and deadlines.
Work Environment
This position is based in a materials testing laboratory environment focused on concrete and soil analysis. The role involves frequent use of testing equipment and tools for destructive concrete testing and soil characterization in accordance with ASTM standards. Work may include standing for extended periods, lifting and positioning test specimens, and handling soil and concrete materials. The laboratory emphasizes strict adherence to safety procedures, cleanliness, and proper sample handling. Standard laboratory attire, including appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, gloves, and protective footwear, is required to ensure a safe and professional work setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tupelo, MS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
