Crops/Commodities:
Diversified Grain, oilseed, floriculture and vegetable farm.
Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays):
Perform manual labor to prune, plant, weed, spray, remove rocks, various cultivation procedures and harvest all crops produced on the farm. Work in Greenhouses. Repair Greenhouses if needed. Operate various agricultural farm machines and equipment to carry out soil work, sowing, planting, spraying, fertilizing, weeding and harvesting. Load, unload and transport crops to storage. Perform Daily inspections on machinery and equipment. Perform routine maintenance, identify mechanical problems with equipment and do minor repairs in collaboration with the supervisor. Use equipment, monitoring, and grain monitoring. Perform cleaning, waxing and minor maintenance on machinery, grain bins, and other farm structures. Farm property, general mowing and trimming, planting trees, preparing soil for trees. Trellis work for trees and planting shrubs. Various irrigation activities. Clearing brush along tree lines and certain roads used on the farm by hand or with equipment. May assist with cleaning and bedding for the small animals on the farm. Repair and maintain fences. Repair, maintain and possibly paint farm structures. Harvest, clean and replant tulips.
Must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required. Must report for work daily wearing work clothing and boots or other durable footwear. Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work.
Outdoor work is required when plants are wet, or during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity, and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours may vary. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Work is done outdoors for long periods of time and requires prolonged periods of standing and/or walking, repetitive movements, and frequent bending and/or stooping. Workers must be able to handle, lift, and carry heavy or bulky objects (product, containers) in accordance with the specified lifting requirements.
Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively with supervisors. Unusual, complex, or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a proficient manner without close supervision.
Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Job opportunity is Skill Level I. All primary duties are entry-level and require close supervision and/or a short demonstration of the task by a more experienced worker.
