Job Summary
The Limited Scope Radiologic Technologist - Urgent Care Center performs diagnostic radiographic procedures within the defined scope authorized by state licensure and urgent care clinical protocols to support timely diagnosis and treatment. This role produces high-quality radiographic images while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and compliance with radiation safety standards. The position performs only those imaging procedures permitted under Limited Scope licensure and does not perform advanced imaging modalities or procedures outside authorized scope. The Technologist collaborates with clinical staff to support efficient patient flow and may assist with basic clinical support duties in accordance with training, licensure, and organizational policies.
Essential Functions
Performs diagnostic radiographic examinations permitted under Limited Scope licensure and state regulations in accordance with provider orders and urgent care protocols.
Verifies patient identity and examination details; explains procedures and provides instructions to ensure patient understanding and cooperation.
Positions patients accurately to obtain optimal diagnostic images while minimizing radiation exposure and adhering to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles.
Evaluates images for quality, positioning, and completeness prior to submission for interpretation.
Operates, maintains, and performs quality checks on imaging equipment to ensure functionality, safety, and readiness for use.
Documents procedures and patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) and radiology systems.
Adheres to radiation safety, infection prevention, and patient confidentiality standards.
Refers imaging procedures outside Limited Scope authorization to appropriately licensed radiologic technologists or external imaging providers.
Assists with patient intake, vital signs, rooming, and other basic clinical support duties consistent with training and organizational guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
0-2 years of experience as a Limited Scope Radiologic Technologist required
Experience in urgent care, outpatient, or physician practice settings preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of radiographic imaging principles, anatomy, positioning techniques, and radiation safety standards.
Knowledge of state scope-of-practice limitations applicable to Limited Scope licensure.
Ability to adapt to fast-paced urgent care workflows and prioritize patient needs effectively.
Skill in operating radiographic equipment and utilizing PACS and EHR systems.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to support patient-centered care.
Ability to work independently within defined scope and escalate concerns appropriately.
Flexibility to work extended shifts, weekends, and rotating holidays as operationally required.
Ability to travel to other urgent care locations as needed to support staffing requirements.
Licenses and Certifications
Licensed Limited Scope Radiologic Technologist/Limited Medical Radiologic Technologist as applicable by state required
BLS - Basic Life Support required
