Job Title: Software Engineer - Vehicle Testing
Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic Software Engineer to drive prototype-level vehicles. The role involves operating both on predefined and exploratory routes while ensuring safety and efficiency. You will play a crucial part in maintaining the readiness to take control when needed, operating in-vehicle Data Acquisition systems, and providing insightful feedback on vehicle performance.
Responsibilities
Safely drive prototype-level vehicles across various routes with different road conditions.
Operate the Route Intelligence Tool to manage changing road topology, weather, and traffic conditions.
Ensure full preparedness to take control when the system disengages, ensuring smooth transitions.
Manage in-vehicle Data Acquisition systems: start/stop logs, event tagging, sensor monitoring, and simple debugging.
Follow daily test plans, perform vehicle readiness checks, and capture high-quality data.
Provide structured, objective feedback on vehicle behavior, near-miss situations, and unexpected actions.
Identify challenging environment types for autonomous systems, such as sharp curves and pedestrian crossings.
Analyze and compare human-driven versus autonomous system driving behaviors.
Support investigations into safety interventions and potential collision scenarios.
Contribute to the definition of scenario-based metrics for German/European driving conditions.
Assist in making data-driven decisions from large datasets.
Essential Skills
Strong and responsible driving habits with a valid EU B-class driver’s license and no major accident history.
2+ years of driving or vehicle testing experience, including university projects.
Experience with Python, Linux, and MATLAB.
Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear feedback.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Currently pursuing or recently completed a BS or MS in Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical, Mobility, Robotics, or Data Science.
Understanding of Autonomous Driving concepts such as ACC, AEB/PEB, Lane Keeping, and Highway Assist.
Experience with sensor perception technologies including camera and radar.
Experience in giving structured feedback or conducting test drives.
Ability to interpret sensor or vehicle performance data.
Work Environment
The position requires reporting to the office for 40 hours per week, with a 10% travel requirement. This role offers the opportunity for contract extension or direct employment in 2027. Working closely with engineering teams across Germany, Poland, the US, and India, you'll gain exposure to global autonomous systems and vehicle data pipelines, laying a strong foundation for a career in Autonomous Driving, Robotics, or Data Analytics.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
