We are currently seeking a Ontology/ECC Solution Architect to join our team in Detroit, Michigan (US-MI), United States (US).
Job Description:
Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Ontology/ECC Solution Architect with at least 15 years of experience in enterprise solution architecture, semantic technologies, and distributed systems. You will lead the design, development, and deployment of enterprise knowledge systems using Fluree or similar blockchain-backed semantic databases and Akka (distributed actor-based toolkit), creating robust, scalable, and context-aware data solutions.
Key Responsibilities, Core Skills & Secondary Skills
- Solution Architecture & Leadership
Key Responsibilities:
· Define and implement enterprise ontology/ECC solution architecture, integrating Fluree or similar semantic databases with Akka-powered distributed systems.
· Oversee the design and implementation of ontologies, semantic data models, and knowledge graphs that support business intelligence and data governance.
· Lead the development of ECC (Enterprise Content and Context) frameworks to ensure secure, context-rich, and compliant data ecosystems.
Core Skills:
· You are experienced in designing and implementing enterprise solution architectures.
· You have strong skills in semantic data modeling for business applications.
· You have practical experience working with Fluree or similar semantic databases.
· You have hands-on experience with Akka (Scala/Java) for building distributed systems.
· You are capable of designing and leading ECC framework implementations.
· You can develop and manage knowledge graph solutions for enterprise use.
Secondary Skills:
· You are familiar with cloud architectures such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
· You understand blockchain concepts and how they apply to data solutions.
· You have experience leading teams in Agile or Scrum environments.
· You can produce technical documentation and architectural blueprints.

- Semantic Modeling & ECC Frameworks
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead the modeling and extension of ontologies using OWL, RDF, or RDFS to represent enterprise knowledge and contextual relationships.
· Implement ECC models that support data provenance, lineage, access control, and regulatory compliance.
· Utilize Fluree or similar blockchain and semantic features to ensure data integrity, traceability, and auditability.
Core Skills:
· You have hands-on experience with ontology engineering using OWL, RDF, or RDFS.
· You are skilled in designing and implementing ECC models for enterprise applications.
· You can design and manage systems for data provenance and lineage.
· You are proficient in semantic reasoning and inference techniques.
· You have knowledge of access control and data security practices.
· You understand regulatory compliance requirements relevant to enterprise data.
Secondary Skills:
· You can manage taxonomies and metadata for business and technical use cases.
· You are familiar with data stewardship practices.
· You understand standards for knowledge representation.

· You can automate workflows for semantic data processes.
- Distributed Systems & Integration
Key Responsibilities:
· Oversee the development and integration of Akka-based microservices, actors, and event-driven architectures that interact with Fluree or similar databases.
· Design and implement data pipelines for semantic data ingestion, transformation, enrichment, and querying.
· Set standards for system resiliency, high availability, and distributed performance.
Core Skills:
· You have experience designing distributed systems using Akka.
· You are proficient in developing microservices architectures.
· You can build data pipelines for semantic data processing.
· You are familiar with event-driven architectures.
· You can optimize systems for resiliency, availability, and performance.
Secondary Skills:
· You can design and implement APIs using REST or GraphQL.
· You have experience with messaging protocols such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
· You know how to use containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.

- Standards, Best Practices & Governance
Key Responsibilities:
· Promote industry standards such as SHACL,OWL, RDF, SPARQL, and W3C for semantic web, ontology engineering, and ECC.
· Establish and enforce architectural guidelines, modeling best practices, and governance policies.
· Maintain thorough documentation of architectures, integration patterns, and operational procedures.
Core Skills:
· You are knowledgeable about semantic web standards including OWL, RDF, and SPARQL.
· You can develop and enforce architectural and governance policies.
· You are able to establish best practices for semantic modeling and ECC frameworks.
· You can create and maintain detailed technical documentation.
· You are comfortable sharing knowledge and best practices with teams.
Secondary Skills:
· You can align semantic solutions with industry standards such as ISO or W3C.
· You are able to engage with professional communities and support team training.
· You can facilitate workshops and internal training sessions.

Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
· At least 15 years of hands-on experience in solution architecture, semantic technologies, or related domains.
· 5+ Years experience designing, implementing, and governing ontologies and semantic frameworks using OWL, RDF, or RDFS.
· 6 months Practical experience with Fluree or similar blockchain-backed semantic or graph databases.
· 6+ years in Advanced proficiency with Akka (Scala/Java) for distributed, actor-based systems.
· 7+ Experience with ECC frameworks, enterprise data governance, and context-aware systems.
· 5+ Proficiency with SPARQL, semantic queries, graph reasoning, and data integration.
· 12+ Demonstrated leadership delivering large-scale, enterprise-grade semantic solutions.
· Strong communication and team leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in regulated industries such as finance, healthcare, or government.
· Background in blockchain, data provenance, and digital audit trails.
· Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud-native architectures.
· Participation in semantic web, ontology, or open-source knowledge communities.

Where required by law, NTT DATA provides a reasonable range of compensation for specific roles. The starting hourly range for this remote role is $55.46 to $128.38 . This range reflects the minimum and maximum target compensation for the position across all US locations. Actual compensation will depend on several factors, including the candidate's actual work location, relevant experience, technical skills, and other qualifications. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation based on individual and/or company performance.
