Kelly Services 14178 - Sr Director - Workday Finance Solutions Architect (Temporary - Virtual) in Troy, Michigan
Together we change lives.
Kelly is a team of experts driven by our belief that the impact of the right person in the right job is limitless. No matter where you are in your career journey, you can apply your knowledge and passion to move people, organizations, and communities forward. As a team we celebrate inclusion, caring, and collaboration. As a company we value your contribution, we work with integrity, and we always put people first — so your impact really will change lives.
Our Sr Director, Workday Finance Solutions Architect is a temporary senior leadership role within the Finance Transformation Office. This is not a consulting engagement in the traditional sense — it is a long-term platform ownership and strategic leadership role, held to the same accountability standard as a Kelly Finance senior leader.
This person serves as Kelly's highest-authority internal voice on Workday Finance — the executive-level bridge between IT delivery, system integration partners, and Finance operations. They are accountable for ensuring the platform is built right, governed well, and continuously aligned to Finance's evolving operational and strategic needs across a multi-year, multi-phase transformation.
The role follows a deliberate arc: guide Finance through the active phases of a multi-wave, enterprise-wide Workday implementation, architect the future-state Finance operating model within the platform and institutionalize a governance model that outlasts any single program cycle — building something durable, not just delivering a go-live. The right person brings firsthand Workday implementation experience, Finance leadership credibility, and the executive presence to operate as a peer to Kelly's Chief Accounting Officer and VP, Global Finance & Business Services — not as a vendor resource reporting upward.
Responsibilities:
Platform Stabilization & Deployment Readiness
Leads Finance readiness strategy across all Workday deployment milestones — assessing configuration state, Finance process readiness, and risk exposure with the authority to escalate and drive resolution
Owns Finance-specific testing strategy and execution: scenario-based, workflow-driven, and reflective of how Finance actually operates — not a checkbox exercise
Defines and governs Finance hypercare coverage aligned to operational calendars; serves as the primary escalation point for Finance functional issues post-deployment
Brings implementation-phase credibility to design reviews, integration sessions, and governance forums — capable of challenging SI recommendations and holding Workday partners accountable
Future-State Architecture & Platform Strategy
Defines the future-state Finance operating model within Workday — FDM evolution, process standardization across R2R, P2P, and QTC, reporting architecture, and integration optimization
Maintains a prioritized Workday Finance enhancement backlog and release calendar; ensures Finance-driven changes are sequenced, governed, and executed in a controlled manner
Partners with Finance and IT leadership to make platform design decisions with full awareness of downstream Finance risk — architectural choices that will serve Kelly through 2029 and beyond
Contributes to functional strategy as a senior Finance Transformation leader, not merely as a technical resource
Workday Finance Domain Ownership
Leads Finance's requirements, configuration validation, and integration readiness across the full Workday Finance suite, with priority depth in:
Financial Data Model (FDM) — reporting hierarchies, worktags, cost structures, and profitability definitions
Consolidation — a priority depth area given the complexity of Kelly's current-state environment
AP, Banking & Treasury — payment connectivity, bank reconciliation, and cash management workflows
AR — automation use cases, data flows, and end-to-end receivables processes
Close, Reporting & Compliance — period-end processes, financial reporting outputs, and SOX control documentation
Executive Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Functional Leadership
Operates as a Finance peer in executive-level discussions — able to present platform risk, architectural tradeoffs, and investment recommendations to the CFO, CAO, and Finance leadership without a translator layer
Represents Finance with credibility and authority in all program governance forums, steering committees, and SI design sessions
Translates IT decisions into clear operational implications for Finance leadership; translates Finance requirements into technical specifications for IT — with the implementation-phase experience to make both translations credible
Builds and sustains trust-based relationships with Finance leaders, IT partners, and Workday SIs; holds partners accountable without creating adversarial dynamics
Proactively surfaces risks, blockers, and architectural tradeoffs before they become program-level issues
Knowledge, Standards & Institutional Capability
Produces and maintains transfer-ready artifacts: design standards, process runbooks, reporting catalogs, SOX controls documentation, and training materials
Builds internal Finance capability to understand, use, and own the Workday platform over time — reducing dependence on external consulting resources
Ensures institutional knowledge is documented and durable — not resident in any one person, including this role
Knowledge, Skills, and Experiences:
12+ years of relevant experience, consistent with Sr. Director-level accountability in a complex Finance environment
5+ years of hands-on Workday Financials experience across the full Finance module suite; Core Financials is the expected foundation, with Consolidation as a priority depth area; breadth across AP, AR, Banking, Expenses, and Financial Reporting is required
Active CPA license or equivalent credential is preferred
Firsthand experience navigating active Workday implementations — understanding how design decisions are made under timeline pressure and where configuration choices create downstream Finance risk
Prior Finance or Accounting leadership experience — Controller, CFO, CAO, or equivalent operational roles that establish peer-level credibility with Kelly's Finance executives
Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior leader across IT and Finance — equally effective in a Workday configuration session and a C-suite Finance discussion
Executive presence and communication skills: able to present complex technical and financial tradeoffs to senior leadership with clarity, confidence, and appropriate brevity
Experience in complex, multi-phase program environments with evolving scope and milestone-driven delivery
Track record of producing durable, transfer-ready artifacts — not just delivering projects, but leaving teams better equipped than before
Additional Preferred:
End-to-end Workday implementation experience as a Solution Architect or Finance domain lead
Experience with Workday integration partners across treasury, AR automation, and banking connectivity platforms
Familiarity with SOX control environments and IT general controls in a Workday context
Background in Finance Transformation, shared services, or program management
Experience with Record-to-Report, Procure-to-Pay, or Contract-to-Cash process redesign in a Workday environment
Prior experience migrating from a legacy ERP to Workday
Professional services staffing or workforce solutions industry experience a plus
Exposure to Workday Billing, PSA (Professional Services Automation), or Projects — particularly relevant given Kelly's solutions billing design
Bullhorn One platform experience is a meaningful differentiator given Kelly's QTC environment
Workday Tax or Treasury module experience a plus
Locations and Travel:
Eastern time zone availability is required
Primarily remote with onsite travel as requested, with reasonable advance notice
Base pay range for this position is $100 – $125 per hour. Final hourly compensation will be based on experience and may vary by geographic location.
