Las Animas County PT Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) Las Animas County SO Jail (Contract) in Trinidad, Colorado

Summary: Under supervision of the Medical Office registered Nurse or LPN, provides medical services within the scope of their certification for Las Animas County Inmates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

P

rovides basic patient care under nurse supervision, assisting with daily living (bathing, dressing, eating, toileting), taking vital signs, monitoring health changes, helping with mobility. S

chedule inmates for sick line and chronic care visits according to facility specific scheduling guidelines. Receive, verify, store and prepare return pharmaceuticals, Perform dressing changes, soaks, finger stick blood glucose measurements, vital signs, and pulse oximetry under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse, Participate in development of patient plan of care, Provide clerical assistance by answering phones, taking and forwarding accurate messages, transcribing medical orders, and medical record filing, Assist in maintaining inventory and stocking of supplies, Weekend Mental health-teleconference as needed,

Retrieve and enter kites in computerized kite log, pick up medications from pharmacies as needed, obtain weekly weights for inmates and provide medical office with documentation, Medication pass, Medication packaging, Administer Suboxon, Weekend medication inventory (for ordering needs), Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: MUST Possess a VALID COLORADO CNA license, Must possess a current QMAP certification or be able to obtain QMAP certification within 2 months of employment, CPR/AED/First aid certified, Possess valid Colorado driver's license. High school Diploma or equivalent; one year experience as a CNA in a Correctional Environment is Preferred. Must be able to pass a criminal background check

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software.

 

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience working in a detention/correctional facility preferred. Experience in the medical field preferred.

 

Certificates and Licenses: MUST Possess a VALID COLORADO CNA license, Must possess a current QMAP certification or be able to obtain QMAP certification within 2 months of employment, CPR/AED/First aid certified CPR/AED/first aid certified.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities: Exemplify leadership skills and order. Knowledge of CNA skills and practices. Ability to operate all basic medical equipment required for this position. Ability to train others. Basic computer skills using MS Office and email.

Ability to detect hazards and correct problems to ensure a safe working environment. Ability to enforce regulations with firmness, tact and impartiality while working with inmates. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Work is performed mostly in the inmate housing area of the Las Animas County Jail and working in close contact with inmates daily.

Working environment is based in the detention center, where interaction with inmates will occur. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; sit; walk; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: Work is performed mostly in the inmate housing area of the Las Animas County Jail and working in close contact with inmates daily. Working environment is based in the detention center, where interaction with inmates will occur. Work may expose the incumbent to potentially hostile situations and to individuals who are angry, agitated or otherwise upset.
