About the role

As a Senior Consulting Manager – Life, Annuity & Retirement Actuarial Consulting , you will make an impact by leading actuarial‑driven transformation engagements for insurance and retirement clients. You will act as a trusted advisor, bridging actuarial rigor with business strategy, operating models, and technology modernization. You will be a valued leader within Cognizant Consulting, working collaboratively with clients, consulting teams, and cross‑functional stakeholders.

In this role, you will:

  • Actuarial Function Transformation: Lead client engagements by merging actuarial rigor with operating model design. Ability to clearly understand business processes across the insurance and/or retirement value chain — from product filing and new business intake to claims and payout — and recommend transformative changes that drive capital efficiency and operational excellence using actuarial best practices.

  • Operational Solutioning: Provide an actuarial-operational lens to business problems. Ensure proposed process solutions and technology, like Policy Administration System modernizations or automated underwriting engines, meet regulatory standards (PBR, LDTI, IFRS 17) and support operational scalability.

  • Executive Relationship Management: Cultivate Trusted Advisor status with senior actuaries, operations leads, and finance, reporting, & accounting leads. Effectively communicate the operational impact of actuarial shifts and regulatory changes to non-technical client stakeholders, ensuring alignment between financial goals and business strategy.

  • Market & Product Innovation: Monitor the competitive landscape for Life Insurance, Annuity, and/or Retirement products. Identify opportunities for innovative consultative service offerings from business and actuarial consulting perspectives.

  • Industry Eminence & Thought Leadership: Develop and execute a thought leadership plan focusing on the modernization of the Life, Annuity, and/or Retirement industry. Lead point of views and author commentaries on various aspects of life insurance, annuities, and/or retirement businesses.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with sales, delivery, and product development teams to bake actuarial best practices into the broader consulting business’ framework.

  • Mentorship: Guide other practice associates toward adopting an actuarial approach, mentor junior team members, and develop their expertise and skills in actuarial science.

Work model

We strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a remote position open to qualified applicants in the United States , with travel required based on client and project needs.

What you must have to be considered

  • 8+ years of experience in Life Insurance, Annuity, and/or Retirement industries, with a focus on actuarial advisory, consulting, or transformation roles

  • Associate or Fellow designation (ASA, FSA, or internationally recognized equivalent); partial completion of actuarial exams will be considered

  • Deep understanding of end‑to‑end insurance and retirement value chains, including product development, underwriting, policy administration, and claims

  • Strong actuarial and financial knowledge across Life and Annuity products (Term, Whole, Universal, Fixed, Variable, Indexed Annuities, and Retirement products)

  • Proven ability to bridge actuarial, business, and technology stakeholders in complex client environments

  • Demonstrated leadership experience mentoring teams and influencing senior stakeholders

These will help you succeed

  • Advanced degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Mathematics, or related field

  • Experience with actuarial or policy administration modernization initiatives

  • Familiarity with industry frameworks (e.g., ACORD, LIMRA, IRI) and agile delivery models

  • Active engagement with industry associations or actuarial communities

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is $110,000 – $158,500 , depending on experience, qualifications, and location. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the terms of applicable plans.
