New Jersey Department of Health Assistant Director of Nursing Services 1, Psychiatric in Trenton, New Jersey
DEFINITION: A hospital nurse educator is responsible for training and mentoring nursing staff, developing educational programs, and ensuring high-quality patient care through effective nursing education. Key Responsibilities: Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs tailored to the needs of nursing staff, ensuring they meet current healthcare standards and practices. Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and simulations to enhance clinical skills and knowledge among nursing staff. Conduct learning needs assessments to identify gaps in knowledge and skills among nursing staff and develop strategies to address these gaps. Provide mentorship and support to new nurses, guiding them through clinical practices and fostering professional development. Assess the effectiveness of educational programs and make necessary adjustments to improve learning outcomes and patient care. Work closely with clinical leadership to align educational initiatives with organizational goals and patient care standards. Keep abreast of the latest developments in nursing education and healthcare practices to ensure that training programs are relevant and effective. Strong teaching and communication skills to effectively convey complex information to nursing staff. Ability to lead and inspire nursing staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple educational programs and assess their effectiveness.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors degree in Nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Three (3) years of the required experience shall be in a first in-line supervisory capacity involving the care and treatment of psychiatric, geriatric, or developmentally disabled patients.
NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the Bachelors degree in Nursing must possess one (1) additional year of non supervisory experience.
LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a current professional license as a Registered Nurse valid in the State of New Jersey.
SUBSTITUTION: A Master's degree in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, or Health Services Administration may be substituted for one (1) year of the required non-supervisory experience.
LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
