New Jersey Department of Health Assistant Director of Nursing Services 1, Psychiatric in Trenton, New Jersey
DESCRIPTION: Assistant Director of Nursing (Staffing Office) Serves as the primary authority for patient flow staff safety, and emergency response, ensuring seamless high-quality care across all units. Responsibilities include but not limited too: Operational Leadership: Direct the scheduling office and manage facility-wide patient movement. You will make high-level clinical decisions to optimize staffing levels and ensure safe, efficient patient flow. Incident & Safety Management: Serve as the primary oversight for the Nursing Log and medical incident reporting. You will lead the charge in maintaining a safe environment for both staff and patients, acting as a first responder to emergency codes and security (Overwatch) calls. Clinical Mentorship: Act as a subject matter expert for nursing staff, providing guidance on policies, procedures, and EMR (POES) workflows. You will be responsible for training team members and maintaining TPH clinical competencies. Personnel Oversight: Manage staff performance and conflict resolution. This includes reviewing ECATS (timekeeping), executing EPARS (evaluations), and implementing ERO disciplinary processes when direct unit supervisors are unavailable. Emergency Preparedness: Implement and manage emergency protocols during facility-wide contingencies, ensuring the team is trained and ready for rapid response. Unit Engagement: Conduct frequent rounds across all units to maintain high visibility, support frontline staff, and address real-time operational challenges.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Three (3) years of the required experience shall be in a first in-line supervisory capacity involving the care and treatment of psychiatrics, geriatric, or developmentally disabled patients.
NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the bachelor’s degree in nursing must possess one (1) additional year of non-supervisory experience.
LICENSES: Appointee will be required to possess a current professional license as a Registered Nurse valid in the State of New Jersey.
SUBSTITUTION: A Master's degree in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, or Health Services Administration may be substituted for one (1) year of the required non-supervisory experience.
LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
