County of Jones Veterans Service Officer (Part-time) in Trenton, North Carolina
Jones County is seeking a dedicated Veterans Service Officer (VSO) to serve as an advocate for veterans and their families. This position assists individuals in obtaining federal, state, and local benefits and serves as the primary liaison with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
Key Responsibilities Counsel veterans and dependents on available benefits and services Prepare, develop, and submit VA claims and supporting documentation Review and manage claims and appeals, including complex cases Serve as liaison between veterans, government agencies, and community partners Maintain accurate records, reports, and case files Coordinate outreach and community engagement efforts Interpret and apply applicable laws, regulations, and policies Assist with program planning and service delivery * Minimum Qualifications* Associate degree and one (1) year of experience in veteran services, human services, or related field; or High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of relevant experience; or Equivalent combination of education and experience
Additional Requirements Ability to obtain Veterans Service Officer accreditation within required timeframe Valid North Carolina drivers license
Preferred Qualifications Prior military service Experience with VA systems (VBMS, VetPro, etc.) Background in case management, outreach, or program coordination Supervisory or leadership experience
