Position Summary:
This position is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on County facilities,including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, and lighting. The role involvesoperating light to heavy equipment to install, repair, and maintain water distribution systemssuch as waterlines, valves, and hydrants. Duties also include conducting preventive maintenanceand inspections for buildings, grounds, and equipment; interpreting blueprints, maps, andordinances to ensure compliance with State and local regulations; and responding to emergencyrepair needs for both facilities and water systems. The employee is also responsible formaintaining accurate records of all work performed.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform heavy physical labor including climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying.
- Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
- Must be able to work in indoor and outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and noisy environments.
- Must possess visual acuity to operate equipment and machines such as drills and power saws, to perform skilled trades tasks, use measurement instruments, read instructions, inspect work for accuracy, and to keep and maintain various records.
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate mobile equipment such as loaders and dump trucks in a safe manner to fit pipes and other parts, read gauges, and make written records.
- Worker may be in close quarters which could cause claustrophobia.
Desirable Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED, supplemented by coursework in building trades, technical skills, or water systems operations.
- Three to five years of experience in building maintenance and/or water distribution systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: Associates Degree in building maintenance, HVAC, electrical, and/or plumbing.
- Possession of a grade C Distribution OR grade C Well OR possession of Physical Chemical Grade 1 State Operator Certification issued by the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources
Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid North Carolina drivers license.
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) may be required depending on assignment.
