Air Mobility Command Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Swimming Pool) in Travis AFB, California
Summary About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation, Swimming Pool on Travis Air Force Base, CA. This is a temporary position not to exceed 1 December 2026. Eligible to use base facilities such as the Base Exchange (BX), Gym, Outdoor Rec, Library, Marina, Golf Course, Bowling Center, and the Arts & Crafts Center. Responsibilities Recruit, test, assist, train, and supervise other seasonal aquatics personnel, ensure that TAFB and safety rules, regulations, and policies are followed; plan, organize, market, and implement pool programs to meet the needs of the community; evaluate staff and the effectiveness of the pool programs; and ensure efficient management and professional practices at the aquatic facility. Promote, develop, supervise and register the instructional swimming programs. Direct the work of guards and instructors in carrying out safety requirements, lesson instruction and the cleaning of the swimming area and dressing room areas. Assist in ordering supplies, make daily cash reports, performs an audit of daily attendance, keep records of all transactions for auditing purposes and assist with maintaining budget by controlling staff time and other operating costs. Rescue swimmers, administer first aid, and serve as a lifeguard/instructor. Facilitate and conduct weekly work outs/in-service training. Responsible for providing information pertaining to water quality, temperature, and other related items to the Community Services Office and the public. Plan, organize, and implement aquatics activities including swimming lessons, open swimming and aerobics. Schedules pool personnel, submits payroll and counsel staff when appropriate. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying Experience: Demonstrate two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in the development, implementation, management, and supervision of a swim instruction program, including knowledge of first aid, water rescues, CPR, and training methods. Must have or be able to complete the required training to obtain the following certifications; American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, American Red Cross Basic First-Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard. Requires the ability to supervise others, maintain records, and prepare and give accurate reports. Displays understanding of all necessary swimming strokes and ability to teach them. Ability to take control of emergency situations. Display ability to effectively, analyze situations and make sound decisions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and public. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
