Job Title: Project Manager - Utility Projects
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Manager to lead complex utility projects from initiation through closeout. This role involves overseeing various utility works related to low voltage distribution, both overhead and underground. The Project Manager will facilitate the project transition from engineering and design to construction, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities
Lead all phases of project management: planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout.
Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure successful project execution.
Track and manage project budgets, schedules, and risks.
Act as the primary point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
Prepare status reports, forecasts, and presentations for clients and leadership.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety protocols, and industry standards.
Mentor and support project team members, including coordinators and field staff.
Monitor projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely completion of all steps.
Address barriers to project completion and escalate issues as needed.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including LVD Planning Engineering Managers, designers, and resource planners.
Manage project scheduling within allocated hours to ensure job completion.
Coordinate with joint-use companies for underground projects.
Initiate operating reviews and project walkdowns with key stakeholders.
Serve as the single point of contact for departments encountering project barriers.
Modify dates for notifications, orders, and tasks when re-design is required.
Assist with balancing statewide workplans with budget and resource availability.
Collaborate with program cost engineers on project actuals vs. planned costs.
Provide weekly updates to program managers and directors on project statuses.
Participate in problem-solving and lean management efforts to improve processes.
Essential Skills
2+ years of project management and utility experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, or SAP.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or General Business is a plus but not required.
PMP certification or equivalent preferred but not required.
Experience related to utility work, low voltage distribution, substation, transmission, natural gas, underground utility, or commercial/industrial construction projects.
Work Environment
The role requires travel to a local office three days a week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday) with remote work on Wednesdays and Fridays. The candidate will work with cross-functional teams, clients, and regulatory stakeholders to meet project goals. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Traverse City, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $48.08/hr.
