Actalent Safety Manager in Torrington, Connecticut
Description
A leading general contractor is seeking an experienced Project Safety Manager to oversee and drive jobsite safety on active construction projects. This role is responsible for implementing company safety programs, ensuring OSHA compliance, and partnering closely with project leadership to maintain a safe, well‑run jobsite.
The Project Safety Manager will serve as the on‑site safety authority, supporting field teams, subcontractors, and leadership in fostering a strong, proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the implementation and enforcement of the company’s Safety & Health Program on assigned projects
Conduct new‑hire safety orientations and ensure proper documentation
Perform daily jobsite safety walks and formal written inspections
Review and enforce Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and site‑specific safety plans
Partner with the Project Superintendent to address safety concerns and corrective actions
Hold employees and subcontractors accountable to company safety policies
Coordinate emergency response planning, fire prevention, evacuation routes, and emergency services
Maintain site‑specific Emergency Action Plans, signage, and evacuation maps
Coordinate with local medical providers for injury treatment and drug & alcohol testing
Identify, monitor, and manage permit and non‑permit confined spaces
Conduct pre‑planning safety meetings with subcontractors before work begins
Complete and submit monthly safety reports, including:
Fire extinguisher, GFCI, fall protection, scaffold, rigging, and trench inspections
Confined space permits, JHAs, and environmental control inspections
Lead weekly and “Monday Morning” safety meetings
Investigate incidents and prepare accurate, timely safety reports
Maintain all required jobsite safety logs, records, and documentation
Participate in weekly project meetings to review safety items and upcoming risks
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience (Heavy Civil, Environmental, Transportation, Mechanical, Utility, prefered)
Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards
Experience conducting jobsite inspections, safety orientations, and incident investigations
Ability to coordinate effectively with superintendents, project managers, and subcontractors
Strong communication skills and the confidence to enforce safety requirements on site
Proficiency with safety documentation, reporting, and inspections

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
