Job description

As part of the Systems Architecture and Integration (SAI) team, the VIE will support the Systems Architecture and MBSE activities related to the development of complex and highly-integrated aircraft landing systems for various platforms (commercial, business, military) and development phases (research and technology, advanced projects, bids, development programs).

Systems Architecture

The objective of the Systems Architecture process is to comprehensively capture the customer and stakeholder needs for all operating conditions across the product lifecycle by:

  • Ensuring the operational needs and constraints are complete and understood (activities: describing and modeling operational contexts, use cases, and operational scenarios, based on direct interactions with the customers, and existing company knowledge)

  • Structuring the product design process (activities: writing and managing requirements, identifying and modeling system architectures and trade-offs, allocating functions and performance to the sub-systems and equipment)

  • Completing trade-off score cards to assess the different candidate architectures and choose the optimal technical solution, with support of all the Engineering functions involved

  • Ensuring technical coherence of the product baseline (e.g., requirements traceability, validation and verification), identifying the risks and opportunities within the project (e.g., weight, performance, cost)

  • Leading and documenting collaborative architecture workshops with the customers and/or internally, applying and capturing best practices and lessons learned

MBSE Management

As the Systems Architecture tasks are realized within a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) framework, the VIE will also be involved in some of the following MBSE Management activities:

  • Create and manage MBSE artifacts under the Requirements and Architecture domains, including modeling of system architectures, writing or reviewing specification documents, and preparing development plans

  • Engage with customers to build collaborative MBSE frameworks; train and support project teams in using the MBSE process, methods and tools; capture and document MBSE best practices and lessons learned

  • Consult available MBSE resources to learn and share new skills related to methods, languages and tools

But what else? (advantages, specificities, etc.)

The SAI team being transverse across three business units (LGI, SE, WB), and four design offices (Toronto, Canada; Walton, USA; Vélizy, France; Gloucester, UK), this position is unique as it gives an excellent overview of the Engineering department's activities over the entire product development lifecycle.

Candidate skills & requirements

Requirements:

  • Graduated in a master's degree in engineering (e.g. Aerospace and/or Systems Engineering).

  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering theory and its application on complex embedded systems (an interest in developing this knowledge is sufficient, but a prior understanding of Systems Engineering is an asset).

Hard skills:

  • Familiarity with UML/SysML modeling languages in Cameo, Rhapsody or similar modeling tools.

  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS or DOORS Next (IBM Jazz platform).

  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation environments (MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools).

Soft skills:

  • Big picture thinker that can recognize when to pay attention to details.

  • Independent learner who is motivated to study both practical and abstract topics.

  • Initiative and autonomy, ability to work both autonomously and in a team.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and French.
