Working at BlackBerry’s headquarters in Waterloo, ON, the Senior Manager, Technical Accounting will join a team of dynamic and experienced finance professionals on the Company’s accounting team. Reporting to the Senior Director, Assistant Corporate Controller, the position will lead accounting and external reporting related projects, including researching technical accounting guidance related to revenue and complex transactions, writing accounting position memos and benchmarking industry financial reporting practices. The role will also assist with the revenue recognition processes and fiscal period closing operations.

Specific Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical accounting leadership across the finance organization, advising on U.S. GAAP treatment of complex accounting matters, implementation of new accounting standards, and emerging accounting and financial reporting issues in a SaaS environment.
  • Lead the preparation of technical accounting memoranda for routine and non‑routine SaaS transactions, including ASC 606 revenue arrangements, multi‑element contracts, professional services, segment reporting, and impairment analyses, ensuring well‑supported, audit‑ready conclusions aligned with company policies.
  • Review customer contracts for revenue recognition considerations and partner with Sales, Legal, FP&A, and cross‑functional teams on contract terms, new offerings, and related technical accounting implications.
  • Lead the revenue accounting close process, including deal review and journal entries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal controls.
  • Ensuring consistent application of U.S. GAAP and company policies across complex revenue recognition areas (multiple performance obligations, SSP analyses, contract modifications) and lease accounting.
  • Assist with oversight of consolidated quarterly and annual external financial statements, including MD&A preparation in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Serve as a technical accounting resource on system implementations and cross‑functional initiatives, identifying accounting policy impacts and requirements early.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Canadian or United States CPA designation is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related major is required.
  • 5+ years’ experience including public accounting experience is preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting background in U.S. GAAP or IFRS accounting standards, including the ability to research and interpret accounting standards, analyze complex transactions, and assess the impact of evolving guidance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems; NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex revenue topics in clear, business‑focused language.
  • Ability to think strategically and work effectively across functions to resolve complex business issues.

Compensation Hiring Base Salary Range:

$110,825.00 - $157,300.00

 

Please be advised that the compensation hiring range indicated herein is provided solely as a good-faith estimate of expected base compensation for the position. The actual compensation offered will be determined at the time of hire and is contingent upon multiple factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, demonstrated skills, and results of assessments conducted during the hiring process.
