The role:
This is a 18 Month Full Time Contract back-fill role supporting Retail Finance (specifically supporting Retail Deposits and Credit Cards Finance).
As Manager Retail Finance, you will work closely with business partners and a diverse set of stakeholders providing FP&A support and delivering strategic advice that solves business/reporting challenges. The successful candidate is extremely curious and action oriented with an ability to drive results in a highly collaborative manner. In fostering relationships with business partners, the Manager will focus on fully understanding business drivers and the underlying financial results, while relentlessly pursuing value generating insights. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Finance, the Manager is responsible for transparent communication of financial results and analysis and all forecasting and budgeting related activities to the Retail Banking Business (specifically supporting Retail Deposits and Credit Cards Business Lines).
Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
Monthly & Quarterly Financial Reporting & Analysis
Support key stakeholders with analysis of the P&L, Balance Sheet and business drivers and Key Performance Indicators (Net Interest Income, Net Interest Margin, Credit Losses, Expenses, etc.)
Identify main drivers of interest profit and expenses at the business unit and product levels
Run monthly reasonability analysis to guarantee accurate month-end closing
Provide meaningful and relevant analysis and commentary for the monthly and quarter-end reporting (including Blue Book) and other Management Reporting
Present the Monthly/Quarterly financial results to the business line
Generate month-end reporting materials for Senior Management
Responsible for planning, forecasting and analysis of the full P&L and Balance Sheet. Including the annual profit plan, quarterly and monthly forecast and the 5-Year Outlook
Ensure the timely collection of data and actuals reporting to support forecasting
Review assumptions and complete analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of deliverables and understand the impacts to relevant performance metrics of the business
Coordinate and communicate deliverables within the Business Line and Finance
Collaborate with the Business to prepare meaningful commentary against submitted forecasts and plans
Coordinate and present monthly Key Risks & Opportunities with our business partners
Respond to inquiries from business line partners, finance and other key stakeholders
Strong Business Partner – Build and leverage sound relationships with key business partners and stakeholders to further improve profitability by helping the business identify blind spots and see around corners
Expert user of financial reporting, planning and forecasting systems and tools, including EGL/OBI/Smartview, PEAK, Excel and Power Point
Provide finance support and analysis on strategic projects including revenue opportunities, strategic transactions, new product/program offerings, amongst many other initiatives
Maintain an effective system of internal controls over the planning, forecasting and reporting processes and ensure that any SOX controls are addressed
Identify and implement process improvements and leverage digital solutions to seek ways to enhance the profit planning and forecasting processes which can include, streamlining of operational processes, enhancement to analytical capabilities, reduction in operational risk, and resolving issues related to data inconsistency among the various systems and processes
Create detailed job-aid documentation, training materials, desktop procedures and documentation of the current reporting and forecasting processes
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
Post-Secondary degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Economics or related field
Minimum 3 to 5 years FP&A experience
Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Power BI
MBA, CFA or CPA or working toward one is an asset
Proficiency with data management tools
Knowledge of the Bank’s source and reporting system and asset (i.e. Smartview, OBI, PEAK)
A solid understanding of accounting, financial and management reporting principles
Strong data management and modelling skills; ability to build financial models and dashboards
Understanding of banking financial statements, profitability drivers within Canadian Banking, including knowledge of Retail Lending products
Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate findings/analysis and present ideas in a clear and concise manner
Ability to multi-task, work independently and deliver high-quality results under very tight deadlines; continuously asses priorities and business requirement, and balance between regular deliverables and priority Executive requests
Ability to work effectively and achieve results in a matrix organization
Ability to work as part of a team and independently
Strong analytical, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Demonstrated leadership skills and stewardship capabilities in a complex and changing environment
An understanding of portfolio management and drivers of Net Interest Income and Net Interest Margin; including Product Pricing/Yields, Funds Transfer Pricing methodologies and balance sheet mix and capital management concepts considered an asset
