Purpose
Scotiabank is transforming how low‑value payments move across Canada. We are building a new EFT payments engine to replace a legacy platform and support the future of high‑volume, business‑critical payment processing.
We’re looking for a Business Systems Analyst with strong EFT and low‑value payments experience to join this transformation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working close to the technology, understands real‑world payment processing, and can balance modernization delivery with operational stability.
You’ll work in an Agile environment, collaborating with business partners, engineers, and operations teams to deliver secure, compliant, and scalable payment capabilities aligned with Payments Canada rules.
What You’ll Do:
Core Business Systems Analysis Responsibilities
Lead and support requirements discovery through workshops, interviews, and analysis
Elicit, analyze, and document business, functional, and non‑functional requirements
Translate requirements into clear user stories, process flows, and acceptance criteria
Work closely with Product Owners, Engineers, and QA in an Agile / Scrum environment
Participate in:
Backlog refinement
Sprint planning and reviews
Delivery and readiness discussions
Support UAT activities, including test scenario development and defect triage
Maintain high‑quality documentation such as:
Process and sequence diagrams
Data mappings and file layouts
Business rules and operational procedures
Proactively identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and improve payment processes
EFT & Payments Analysis
Act as a payments-focused Business Systems Analyst within a low‑value payments team
Analyze and document end‑to‑end EFT payment processing, including:
Batch file ingestion, validation, and processing
Clearing and settlement through ACSS
Returns, reversals, exceptions, and adjustments
Cut‑off times, processing windows, and posting logic
Apply hands‑on knowledge of Payments Canada rules, standards, and operating procedures
Perform gap and impact analysis across systems, data, and payment flows
Technology Transformation & Operational Support
Support a core payments platform replacement, including:
Documenting current‑state (as‑is) processes and system behaviour
Defining future‑state (to‑be) requirements for the new payments engine
Identifying migration risks, dependencies, and operational impacts
Balance run‑the‑bank support with change‑the‑bank delivery
Assist with investigation of payment issues, defects, and production incidents
Ensure new capabilities integrate cleanly with downstream systems and operational processes
Partner with operations, risk, and control teams to ensure solutions are stable, compliant, and auditable
What You'll Bring:
2-4 years of experience as a Business Analyst / Business Systems Analyst
Strong hands‑on experience in EFT and low‑value payments
Solid understanding of Payments Canada rules, ACSS clearing, and settlement
Experience working on payments modernization or legacy platform replacement initiatives
Background in batch‑based, high‑volume payment systems
Ability to balance operational support and delivery work in complex environments
Strong experience working in Agile delivery models
Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills
Ability to work on‑site 3 days per week as part of a hybrid work model
Experience within a large Canadian financial institution
Exposure to legacy platform decommissioning and data migration
Understanding of operational risk, controls, and audit requirements in payments
Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, SQL
Experience supporting mission‑critical payment platforms
Working Conditions
Work in a standard office-based environment- 4 days in office.
