What You’ll Be Doing

You will be responsible for generating business for CIBC’s Equities business collaborating with the broader Equity Sales team, Equity Trading and our Mining Research team while also working in partnership with other Global Markets businesses, ECM and Investment Banking. The role requires strong relationships and relationship building skills across both the mining corporate landscape as well as mining focused institutional investors in a highly competitive market. The successful candidate will serve as one of CIBC’s focal points for precious metals, base metals and, increasingly, metals within energy transition.

We’re open to hiring a Director based on the candidate’s level of experience.

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $150,000- $175,000.

The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development, enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.

In addition to base pay, compensation for this role includes participation in an annual discretionary incentive or bonus program.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Client engagement - Driving commission growth across institutional accounts by actively engaging mining PMs and analysts as well as key generalist investors across Canada, the US and RoW. Provide them with our mining and commodities research, current information, trade ideas and advice through calls and a morning note while also gathering crucial market intelligence and investor feedback.

  • Corporate Relationship building - Initiate, maintain and deepen senior, strategic corporate relationships in concert with Equity Research, IB, ECM and other teams in furtherance of marketing and new issue business.

  • Market knowledge - Gather, interpret and share mining-focused intelligence / feedback from corporate, industry, and investment sources with our Equity Research, Sales, Trading and IB teams, contributing to our mining franchise and IP broadly across the firm.

  • Product knowledge - Proactively cross-sell Global Markets and Capital Markets products and support the efforts of other business groups.

  • Leadership - Provide leadership for mining focused corporate access priorities / events and IP development.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate 5+ years in mining sales experience. You have mining focused Canada, US and International market knowledge along with mining industry-specific knowledge (engineering, geology and finance).

  • You have a relevant university degree in addition to CSC & CPH.

  • You are passionate about relationship building.

  • You have strong organizational skills and a track record of collaboration.

  • You are digitally savvy. Exhibit creativity and independent thought in developing / refining investment ideas.
