Cognizant Azure Data Engineer (with Databricks, PySpark) in Toronto, Ontario
About the role:
As an Azure Data Engineer , you will make an impact by designing and implementing scalable data architecture solutions that power analytics, ML Ops, and enterprise data workflows within the Cards & Payments domain. You will be a valued member of our technology team and collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners, engineering groups, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, high‑performance data solutions.
In this role, you will:
Design and implement scalable data solutions using Azure Databricks to optimize data processing and analytics workflows.
Integrate and orchestrate data movement using Azure Data Factory to support seamless data transformation pipelines.
Develop and maintain ML Ops pipelines to ensure efficient deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of machine learning models.
Translate business requirements into technical specifications that guide data architecture and solution design.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to development and engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery.
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend tools that enhance data architecture capabilities.
Ensure strong data security and compliance with relevant industry regulations.
Optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing for improved system performance and reliability.
Conduct regular assessments of data architecture to identify improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their data needs and deliver tailored, effective solutions.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data architecture issues to support stable operations.
Document architecture designs, standards, and best practices for future reference and training purposes.
Contribute to strategic organizational goals by developing innovative data solutions that enable business growth.

What you need to have to be considered:
10+ years of experience in data architecture roles.
Strong hands‑on experience with Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory.
Proven expertise designing and implementing data architecture solutions in the Cards & Payments domain.
Solid understanding of data security and compliance requirements.
Ability to optimize data workflows for reliable, high‑performance systems.
Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Comfortable working in a hybrid model and availability for day shifts.
Proactive learning mindset with the ability to adopt new technologies quickly.
Proven ability to deliver high‑quality solutions aligned with business objectives.
These will help you stand out:
Prior experience in the Cards & Payments domain.
Experience with ML Ops frameworks and automation.
Demonstrated ability to drive architectural improvements and influence technology decisions.
Thought leadership or contributions to data engineering best practices.

Salary and Other Compensation :
Applications will be accepted until March 15, 2026.
The annual salary for this position is between $ 100,000 - $ 125,000 CAD depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
