What You’ll Be Doing

The National Industry Programs team is at the forefront of driving growth and innovation within CIBC’s Commercial Banking division. This dynamic team provides sales enablement support to account managers, serves as a trusted resource for risk managers, and develops new programs and marketing strategies to accelerate segment growth.

The Associate Portfolio Manager, Income Producing Properties, National Industry Programs is responsible for supporting the credit underwriting process for commercial lending within CIBC’s Commercial Banking Diversified team. This role focuses on credit analysis, risk assessment, and the preparation of credit submissions for review by Risk Management. You will collaborate with Commercial Banking Relationship Managers and internal partners to ensure the effective management of commercial loan portfolios, retention of existing clients and deepening of relationships.

How You’ll Succeed

Credit Analysis and Underwriting

  • Conduct detailed credit analysis for existing commercial loans, including annual reviews and renewals.

  • Prepare comprehensive credit submissions for Risk Management, ensuring accuracy and alignment with CIBC’s risk appetite and guidelines.

  • Perform sensitivity and scenario analysis to assess potential risks and outcomes.

Portfolio Monitoring and Risk Management

  • Proactively monitor assigned loan portfolios to identify loans requiring review or renewal.

  • Ensure all due diligence and documentation are collected and analyzed in accordance with credit agreements.

  • Assess and manage risk in line with established guidelines, escalating issues as appropriate.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with Relationship Managers, Risk Management, and other internal partners to facilitate the completion of credit reviews and renewals.

  • Provide expertise and support to front-line teams, contributing to the overall success of National Industry Programs and Commercial Banking.

Compliance and Governance

  • Ensure all credit submissions and portfolio activities comply with CIBC and industry policies, guidelines, and controls.

  • Participate in ongoing governance and reporting activities as required.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance underwriting processes, tools, and risk assessment methodologies.

  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in commercial credit underwriting.

Who You Are

  • You have experience in commercial credit underwriting, portfolio management, or related financial analysis roles (approximately 2-3 years).

  • You have a degree in business, finance, real estate, or a related field.

  • You have a strong understanding of credit risk assessment, deal structuring, and regulatory frameworks in commercial lending.

  • You have a proven ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate findings effectively.

  • You have experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities.

  • You are an analytical thinker. You have strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret complex data and make sound recommendations.
