Cardinal Health Senior SAP Engineer, Application Development and Maintenance in Topeka, Kansas

What Application Development & Maintenance contributes to Cardinal Health

Information Technology oversees the effective development, delivery, and operation of computing and information services. This function anticipates, plans, and delivers Information Technology solutions and strategies that enable operations and drive business value.

Application Development & Maintenance performs configuration or coding to develop, enhance and sustain the organization's software systems in a cross-functional team environment through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering practices. This job family programs and configures end user applications, systems, databases, and websites to achieve the organization's internal needs and externally facing business needs. Application Development & Maintenance partners with business leaders, investigates user needs and conducts regular assessments, maintenance, and enhancements of existing applications.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior SAP Platform Engineer to join our team. This role is a unique blend of deep technical expertise, strategic planning, and leadership. You will be responsible for the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of our SAP platforms, with a strong focus on emerging technologies like SAP BTP and BRIM. You will also provide critical support for our existing legacy systems like PI/PO and Portal as we plan their migration. The ideal candidate will be able to manage a diverse landscape that includes ECC, S/4HANA, and RISE, and lead & mentor offshore resources.

  • Drives continuous improvement and standardization across warehouse transformation programs.

Responsibilities

  • SAP Platform Ownership: Drive stability, performance, and continuous improvement of our SAP platforms including SAP BTP.

  • Modern SAP Integration Architecture: Design and implement complex SAP-centric integration patterns, including SAP Integration Suite (BTP), OData, IDoc, and RFC.

  • Migration Leadership: Lead the technical strategy for migrating legacy SAP components, such as PI/PO and Portal, as we transition to S/4HANA and RISE.

  • SAP Cloud Engineering: Provide engineering leadership for SAP workloads running in the cloud, specifically optimizing our environment on Google Cloud.

  • SAP DevOps & CI/CD: Support the successful scaling of SAP-specific CI/CD initiatives to optimize the developer experience and productivity.

  • Core Systems Strategy: Manage a diverse SAP landscape that includes ECC, S/4HANA, and RISE while ensuring innovative solutions remain consistent with organization objectives.

  • Advanced SAP Tooling: Support and scale current and future ASAPIO and BTP implementations to ensure seamless data flow across the SAP ecosystem.

  • Technical Mentorship: Function as a strategic mentor to less experienced colleagues and provide leadership for offshore technical resources to maintain high engineering standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, or equivalent work experience, preferred.

  • Experience: 8–12 years of experience in SAP technical architecture and platform engineering.

  • SAP Platform Expertise: Strong technical understanding of SAP S/4HANA, RISE, and SAP technical architectures.

  • Integration Master: Advanced experience with SAP Integration Suite (BTP), PO, and common protocols like OData, IDoc, RFC, and REST/SOAP.

  • Cloud Proficiency: Proven experience managing SAP environments running on Google Cloud.

  • Specialized SAP Tooling: Hands-on experience with SAP-specific tools like ASAPIO, NWDI, and API Management concepts.

  • Functional Synergy: SAP functional experience, particularly in SAP BRIM, Fiori, and Workflow development, is a significant plus.

Anticipated salary range: $123,400 - $176,300
