Description
The Software Engineering Intern supports the Information Technology Applications Team by contributing to the enhancement and expansion of the DeliveryIT mobile application, a critical tool used by drivers to scan and verify material deliveries at customer locations. DeliveryIT enables proof of delivery, and reporting that allows the business to proactively inform customers of deliveries and efficiently research delivery-related inquiries.
This role provides hands-on experience in mobile application development, cross-platform support, and enterprise system integration. The intern will assist with extending the existing Android-based application to support iOS devices, improving usability, reliability, and adoption across the driver fleet. The project supports Central States’ technology modernization initiative by improving operational visibility, strengthening delivery tracking and audit capabilities, and enhancing the overall customer experience.
Core Functions:
Requirements Gathering & Analysis
Meet with business stakeholders and technical team members to understand delivery workflows and mobile application requirements.
Document driver use cases, scanning workflows, and reporting needs.
Translate business and operational requirements into technical specifications.
Assist in developing and reviewing mobile solution designs.
Mobile Application Development & Integration
Assist with development and testing of the DeliveryIT mobile application, with a focus on enabling and supporting iOS devices.
Support barcode scanning, proof-of-delivery, and data capture functionality.
Work with backend services and APIs that integrate with ERP systems, including Epicor.
Assist in validating data accuracy, synchronization, and reliability between mobile devices and backend systems.
Testing & Quality Assurance
Test mobile application features across supported devices and platforms.
Identify, document, and help troubleshoot defects or performance issues.
Assist with regression testing as new features or platform support is added.
Help ensure application usability and reliability for drivers in real-world conditions.
System Modernization Support
Support the expansion of mobile technology used in delivery operations.
Assist in improving data accessibility for delivery tracking and customer inquiries.
Contribute to documentation of application architecture, workflows, and processes.
Help support continuous improvement of the DeliveryIT platform.
Technical Learning & Collaboration
Participate in application team standups and project meetings.
Work closely with software engineers, architects, and business analysts.
Gain exposure to mobile development frameworks, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
Learn DevOps workflows, version control, and deployment practices.

Education & Experience:
Minimum Required
Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems.
Knowledge of programming or database fundamentals.
Strong analytical thinking skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred
Exposure to mobile application development (Android, iOS, or cross-platform frameworks).
Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, or similar languages.
Familiarity with REST APIs or backend integrations.
Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office environment. This role will routinely utilize standard office
