The Paint Quality Inspector is responsible for all coating quality inspection activates on the shop floor using approved drawings, Coating procedure, customer specifications and generation / certification of inspection and test documents as required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for reading and interpreting various ASTM, ANSI, ASME, MSS and ISO Standards, Codes and specifications as they relate to technical requirements in the purchase orders.

  • Responsible for properly utilizing and interpreting precision measuring equipment, provide proper care and maintenance of same.

  • Assist in training appointed branch QA personnel to perform the duties of this position when unsupervised. May be required to travel to appropriate branch locations.

  • Accurately report completed work electronically, using MS Word, Excel, or database software and to utilize the internet to obtain Certified Test Reports whenever required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Coating Inspector will report directly to Quality Manager.

  • Comprehensive coating inspections in a protective coating environment.

  • Sound knowledge of technical aspects for the construction of projects.

  • Wide knowledge of procedures and manuals regarding coating of Vessels / Piping /structural steel.

  • Inspection to include all equipment's fabricated at Tomball facility and not limited to pressure vessels internal /

  • external coating, Piping and structural steel skids coating.

  • Read and interpret drawings / coating procedures fluently.

  • Ensure the proper use of Coating Inspection instruments in accordance with the inspection Manual.

  • Monitor the work in-process to ensure the implementation of all project procedures / requirements are met.

  • Monitor and documents of ambient temperature and Coating mil thickness.

  • Inspect the surface preparation, primer coat, intermediate and topcoat as required by the project specification.

  • Experienced in Chloride, Sulfate, Nitrate (CSN), Adhesion, Holiday, blast media and equipment material chloride

  • and all other coating testing, Fireproofing, thermal Spray Aluminum experience is a plus.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed coating reports using in-house coating report format.

  • Coordinate all inspections with project managements team.

  • Coordinate inspections with third party inspectors to cover the ITP witness / Hold points with support from PM's.

  • Good communication skills among colleagues, third party inspectors and Customers when required.

  • Report and isolate (tag) non-conforming items.

  • Resolution of corrective actions on nonconforming product and release of acceptable product back to production

  • Able to read and interpret written information with attention to detail.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years of Coating application and mixing experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of Coating Inspections experience.

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry with background in manufacturing.

  • Experience with working in facility producing vessels, skid packages and pipes. (preferred)

  • Ability to use various measuring tools, i.e. DFT gauge, anbient instruments , etc. to perform in-process coating inspections

  • Computer skills and experience with Word, Excel, and Adobe software tools.

  • Read and interpret customers coating specifications

  • Knowledge of industry coating standards and practices

Education, Licensing, and Certifications:

  • High School / GED

  • NACE Level I or II

  • Extensive knowledge of coating as NACE Level II (preferred)
