UL, LLC Senior Project Engineer in Tokyo, Japan
Key Responsibilities
• Technical workstreams: Lead the delivery of technical due diligence (TDD) and other independent advisory works, focusing on asset integrity, operational safety and performance, and local regulatory compliance.
• Project Leadership: Manage the end-to-end consulting process, from initial site visits and inspections to the delivery of final technical reports for investment committees.
• Business Development: Support BD manager to identify growth opportunities in the Japanese renewable energy market (especially BESS and Solar), and lead the development of technical proposals, including scope of work and commercial terms.
• Customer Engagement: Facilitate high-level technical discussions and BD talks with project developers, investors, and lenders to communicate risks and opportunities.
• Market Strategy: Stay abreast of Japanese market trends, including regulations and grid connection requirements, to provide bespoke advisory on PPA structures and project bankability.
Educational Background:
• Bachelor degree in Engineering is required, with a strong preference for Electrical Engineering.
• Understanding of power systems, grid integration, electrical infrastructure and Japan’s related regulatory frameworks.
Related Experience:
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in technical consulting, engineering, or transaction advisory within the renewable energy sector, including direct experience of leading advisory work in BESS projects in Japan.
• Proven track record in BESS and solar PV project development or consultancy.
• Knowledge and experience of electrochemical batteries and fire risk, BESS system architecture, related safety standards and BESS risk management is highly preferred.
BD & Communication Skills:
• Demonstrated experience in BD activities, including lead generation and building long-term client relationships.
• Expertise in leading "customer talks" and presenting complex technical data to non-technical stakeholders (e.g., executives, legal, and finance teams).
Language & Location:
• Based in Japan with professional fluency in both Japanese and English to handle local regulatory discussions and global client reporting.
