Purpose:

This role is responsible for originating and structuring reinsurance and funding agreement solutions across Asia (including funding agreement-backed notes (FABN) where applicable) and leading execution on selected transactions. The Director will partner closely with teams across Athene and Apollo (including investments, legal, finance, actuarial, risk, and operations) and work seamlessly across geographies (Bermuda and the United States) to deliver capital-efficient solutions tailored to client needs. The role will contribute to product development and market strategy for Athene’s APAC platform.

Accountabilities:

  • Partner with APAC business development colleagues and clients across Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea, to identify needs, originate new product ideas, and develop client-ready materials and thought leadership.

  • Lead early-stage pricing, structuring, and feasibility analysis for reinsurance and funding agreement opportunities (including FABN), proactively coordinating stakeholders across actuarial, investments/ALM, legal, tax, finance, risk, and operations to evaluate viability, key trade-offs, and preferred structures that optimize Athene’s capital, accounting, and risk profile.

  • Lead end-to-end execution of selected transactions from agreed structure through negotiation, documentation, closing, onboarding/operationalization, and handoff to in-force management teams for post-close monitoring and rate-setting, as applicable.

  • Support VP/SVP in coordinating the deal pipeline by maintaining execution roadmaps, aligning priorities, and driving timely internal decision-making.

  • Coordinate cross-functional diligence, including review of product features, identification of key risks and mitigants, and alignment on investment/ALM considerations in partnership with Apollo investment teams.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, finance, economics, or related quantitative field.

  • Actuarial background required (e.g., FSA/FIA/ASA or equivalent) or demonstrably similar quantitative finance skill set.

  • 7+ years of experience in the life insurance or reinsurance industry or investment banking background with significant experience in the financial services / insurance sector.

  • Demonstrated expertise in transaction structuring and execution, including contract/treaty negotiation, diligence, and operationalization; familiarity with asset-intensive reinsurance and/or funding agreement products strongly preferred.
