Hyatt Assistant Director of Human Resources (Successor-track) in TOKYO, Japan

Description:

Grand Hyatt Tokyo is looking for an Assistant Director of Human Resources to support the hotel’s People & Culture initiatives for about 650 staff members. Reporting directly to the Hotel Manager and indirectly to the Area Director of HR, the ADOHR will oversee a team of 7 HR professionals and serve as a key advisor to the Leadership Committee. This role is designed as a path to advancement, with an expectation of moving into the Director of Human Resources position based on performance and business needs.

As the most senior HR leader on property (no separate Director of Human Resources role), you will partner day-to-day with the hotel’s Leadership Committee (Department Directors) to deliver Hyatt’s care ethos, build leadership capability, and strengthen organizational performance.

The ADOHR will drive talent, leadership capability, engagement, employee relations, HR operations, and compliance—embedding Hyatt Leadership Expectations and People Playbook practices into daily leadership behaviors and the colleague experience.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

• 8 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in luxury hospitality or a large-scale service operation.

• Strong knowledge of Japanese labor law and hands-on employee relations experience.

• Proven ability to partner with senior leaders and influence outcomes through trust and data-driven recommendations.

• Experience leading and developing teams; strong coaching and communication skills.

• HRIS literacy and comfort using data to drive decisions.

• Japanese and English communication skills sufficient for a dual-reporting environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Hyatt or an international luxury hotel brand.

• Experience leading organizational change and culture initiatives.

• Experience working with regional/area HR governance and reporting.
