Our Information Technology team plays a key role in delivering high-performing, reliable, and secure systems that enable excellent patient care across Union Health. The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) is a key role in providing the highest quality of patient care. You would ensure accurate laboratory testing, proper specimen handling, quality control compliance, and timely reporting of results to support clinical decision-making. This role reports to the Laboratory Manger. Essential & valuable skills gained (in this unit or in this department):
• Performance of waived and moderate complexity laboratory testing • Specimen collection, processing, and preparation for in-house and reference laboratory testing • Use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for documentation, reporting, and result transmission

• Provides comprehensive laboratory testing services supporting inpatient and outpatient care • Maintains compliance with CLIA 1988 standards and laboratory best practices • Plays a critical role in diagnostic accuracy and patient safety across the organization

Essential Job Duties:
• Perform and report waived and moderate complexity laboratory tests using automated, semi-automated, and manual systems • Prepare specimens for in-house testing and referral to reference laboratories, including verification, labeling, centrifugation, storage, and transport • Perform and document Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) activities per laboratory policies • Prepare, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment • Assist with maintaining adequate laboratory supplies to ensure uninterrupted testing • Collect blood and other patient specimens • Enter patient demographics, specimen information, and test results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) • Generate, transmit, and deliver laboratory reports as directed
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s or Associate degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution or • High school graduate or equivalent with completion of an official military medical laboratory training program (minimum 50 weeks) and appropriate military laboratory specialty • Must meet CLIA 1988 requirements for personnel performing moderately complex testing
Licenses / Certifications:
• ASCP, AMT, or NCA certification or certification eligibility preferred
