Edward Jones Department Leader - Data Capabilities in Tempe, Arizona

Position Schedule: Full-Time

This role drives the execution of the organization's data strategy and operating model supporting the firms Knowledge Powered and AI ambition and is accountable for commitments and culture across a meaningfully large area or multiple smaller areas of subject matter expertise within the Data organization. The candidate will be responsible for a Team Leader and a number of Data Advisors who are responsible for aggregating and meeting all data requirements within a particular approved initiative. They may work with outside vendors to ensure a sustainable pipeline of talent to meet their area's current and future needs. They influence outcomes across the Firm on behalf of the organization for their specific areas of responsibility.

What You Will Do:

  • Accountable for the strategy of their area of ownership, staying aligned with the overall Data Strategy and Firm Plan; influences and contributes to the prioritization of firm data needs by partnering across the enterprise.

  • Accountable to meet the needs of consuming stakeholders and to clearly communicate requirements and ensure compliance from producing stakeholders; accountable to ensure best practices are being leveraged and enforced in firm initiatives.

  • Collaborate with other firm leaders (digital, analytics, technology, business partners) to understand requirements and influence the design of effective solutions.

  • Define key performance indicators to monitor and track the health and growth of our data assets.

  • Responsible within their area for recruiting, hiring, and developing diverse talent necessary to fulfill our vision for the organization and achieve key outcomes; develop successors for key positions for their department.

  • Develop and manage business relationships with leaders across the organization in order to lead and contribute to key initiatives.

  • Be a change agent for data literacy; lead and contribute to change management, communication, training, and education initiatives.

  • Ensure prudent use of the firm's financial resources.

Hiring Minimum: $144000

Hiring Maximum: $245100

  • Skills/Requirements

What Experience You Need:

  • 11-14+ years in data/analytics roles (e.g., data product management, analytics consulting, BI, data strategy, or applied AI).

  • Proven experience aligning business strategy to data capabilities.

  • Comfortable leading and working through ambiguous situations to define precise requirements and priorities and drive actionable outcomes.

  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated capacity to develop and implement practical strategies, plans and solutions to identify issues and problems.

  • Strong understanding of data platforms (lakehouse, ELT/ETL), semantic modeling, BI, and AI concepts (feature stores, embeddings, MLOps, RAG).

  • Working knowledge of data governance (privacy, retention, classification) and Responsible AI principles.

  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills; ability to translate technical concepts to business language.

What Could Set You Apart:

  • Experience in Fortune 500/250 or similarly complex environments.

  • Domain experience in one or more areas (Finance/Financial Planning, Wealth Management, Sales/Marketing, Customer).

  • Familiarity with enterprise BI and AI ecosystems and governance platforms (Databricks, Azure, vector databases, MCP servers).

  • Certifications in data governance, analytics, or AI (e.g., DAMA, Azure/AWS/GCP Data/AI).

Candidates that live within a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office four days per week effective June 1, 2026. Before June 1, 2026, candidates that live within a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office three days per week, with preference for Tuesday through Thursday.

Current INTERNAL home-based associates: While this role is posted as hybrid, if selected and accepted, you may retain your home-based status. Edward Jones intends in good faith to continue offering the role as home-based, though future business or regulatory needs may require on-site work.
