Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various duties such as troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves the collection and storage of specimens according to established protocols, along with maintaining patient records.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge them as necessary.
Record maintenance data and ensure proper decontamination processes.
Update patient information accurately.
Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
Understand and execute physicians' orders correctly.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.
Place samples in appropriate collection containers and tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
Essential Skills
Phlebotomy expertise, including venipuncture and specimen collection.
At least 1 year of recent phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting.
Pediatric experience is a MUST
Proficiency with hard sticks and finger pricks.
Strong customer service skills.
Computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required.
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of 1 year of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
Work Environment
The role is based at an IOP in Taylors SC. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM with a 1-hour lunch break. You will handle 15-20 patients daily at a two-person site. The first two weeks will involve training and orientation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Taylors, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75/hr.
